From a size perspective, Lex counts as a boutique size hotel. But don't let it's boutique size fool you, the hotel packs all that a global or local traveler would expect to find in a "business" class hotel. Here are some reasons why I am extremely happy with my stay in Lex (as of writing, I actually am still billeted at this hotel).
.) Carpeted Room - you'd be surprised that hotels that equal Lex in terms of size and class does not have fully carpeted rooms. Lex rooms top all others with this feature, given some only have tiled floors and a rug. You may expect that their fancy name and location guarantee a carpeted floor, not the case for Lex's neighboring competitors. So there, must I say more. If you fancy carpeted floors, Lex is your guaranteed option. I recommend googling pictures of the rooms of Lex's nearby competitors, use search tags like this: "Name of hotel" + "Cebu" + "Room" , then click the "Images" tab on google. Take a sharp look at how their rooms look like and compare it to Lex's. If you fancy carpeted rooms, Lex is your guaranteed option.
.) Bacon - say what? From carpeted floors to bacon? I'll tell you why bacon matters (unless you are vegan, skip this note) A proper breakfast matters to any travel either for business or pleasure. Every hotel accommodation package pairs up their rooms with breakfast and so does Lex of course. But one thing I'd share about Lex's breakfast buffet is the amount of work they put in to complete a more than decent or acceptable buffet - I've observed that they pretty much do their best to complete around 10 quaint stations (options), allow me to enumerate to the best of my ability: Soup & Salad, Fruit & Veg, Pasta & Eggs, Rice & Filipino Breakfast, Roast & Bacon (roast dish can either be pork or chicken), Cheese & hors d'oeuvres, Pancakes, Dessert, Breads & Cereals. I go on about all the detail I see in their buffet, but what I like is that the buffet speaks so much sense, without missing out what you potentially imagine for breakfast. In essence, we ask ourselves: "What would I want for breakfast?" - come down to the Lex buffet and see for yourself. I've also noticed locals and backpackers who are not actually billeted in Lex, yet make it an effort to have their breakfast here - I'd say that is an obvious reason that breakfast at Lex is quite memorable. On weekends, I prefer to sleep longer, wake up around 10am or 11am. But when I am here in Lex, I set up my alarm to 7 or 8 to make sure I don't miss the Lex breakfast. Oh, the bacon - yep - it never runs out - a dedicated chef makes sure it's refilled to the top. This is something I do not see in other hotel breakfast buffets - unlimited bacon. You can never go wrong with unlimited bacon for breakfast! (Vegan's fret not, there's a salad and fruit station, if you can tolerate eggs and milk, there's unlimited supply as well).
.) Service - everyone is just nice, pleasant, courteous and professional. Going back to breakfast a bit, since I've been staying here for quite a while - the guy who prepares eggs for every customer at the buffet is just quite commendable. On day 3 of my stay, I usually proceed straight to the salad station - as I sit on my table, the guy who prepares the eggs, approaches and politely places 2 eggs: sunny side up - over easy on my table - just the way I want it. Imagine that, without the need to approach the station and ask for my eggs, the staff just knows exactly what I want to the T. Very commendable. Room service does not take forever, everyone moves so prompt, smart and fast here. There are days I don't put up the "clean my room" sign - on such days they would call my room and offer to just send bottled water or fresh towels. :)
.) The best of Sunny Cebu - want a tan? If you are too lazy to hit the beach, say Malapascua or Bantayan, the Lex pool deck serves the purpose of helping you with your tan at less cost. The location of the building is positioned so strategic that the pool deck has the face of the sun 80% on its surface. I've seen travelers basking in the sun on the deck just as how they would at the beach. Also if you prefer the sun shining on your room, you can opt to get the rooms facing the Old Capitol side of the building.
.) Key card access - no bulky keys or key chains. Fits right at your wallet or money clip. Caution: do not have your key card close to your credit card or any other form of magnet or magnet strip. I remember one of my key cards not working and the front desk asked if I had it close to my credit card - they did replace my other key with a new one.
.) The best showers - hot water never runs out. I never experienced a morning or any time of the day that I had to shiver out of the showers for not having continuously running hot water.
.) Super fast Wifi - I mean it, swear, it's fast and reliable. If you prefer to do work emails on your laptop or stream movies on your tablet or phone while in your room, the Lex wifi will deliver - it will not frustrate you. From the lobby to the pool deck - wifi is just to reliable.
.) A tiny gym - I actually have a membership at some other international franchise gym that has branches here in the Ph. Nevertheless I find the Lex gym, quite an acceptable gym for anyone who needs to catch up on cardio to burn the extra bacon or croissant they had for breakfast. A gym for anyone who probably just thinks of balancing out exercise with what they eat, I wouldn't recommend it for a seasonal athlete in town for IronMan in need of continuous plyometrics cross training or muscle strengthening. But a gym is a gym - not all boutique hotels have amenities for a gym - so having one at Lex is quite a feature.
.) The Swimming Pool - got kids travelling with you? For sure, they will look for a pool - this one is enough for their whim. Training for IronMan? - probably not the right pool for you, this is a leisure pool. I can actually swim across without breathing. Hahhaa!
.) The Kai night time bar and Pool deck bar - I never tried doing a night out here actually, but the pool deck does offer a nice lounge for those needing a night cap. Same for the lobby bar, I guess it's quite enough - but not too crazy and busy that it will rob guests of a good night sleep because of the noise. less
