You cannot ask a young female to stay in a room she can’t lock at night before going to bed.

Right when we walked in the front desk staff was rude and inattentive, the lobby and elevator very dirty. The room was not super dirty but it was not super clean either. The A/C unit was super dirty and it stunk really badly. The filters were probably never replaced or washed.
The worst part was that they put me in a connecting room with a door that wouldn't lock. After noticing this I went to the front desk staff and his response was "man...yeah, maintenance was supposed to fix that earlier." I then asked for another room and he said he was 100% booked, so no other rooms available. I asked for my money back and he said that per policy he couldn't give me my money. I then asked to speak to his supervisor and he said he wasn't available at the time but that he would be in the next morning. It was late and I was only in town for one night, I called several other hotels in the area and everything else was also full. So I went up to the room and dragged a heavy TV console in front of the connecting door that wouldn’t lock to provide me with some privacy and security. (If someone in the other room tried to open the door it would bump into the console was my idea.) I had to drag that heavy thing by myself because the incompetent and futile front desk guy wouldn't even offer to help. In fact he didn't offer any help at all. His words again were, and I quote "yeah, I don't know what to do..."
So the morning came and I went down for some "free hot breakfast" before checking out and heading into town for my meeting, and obviously I wasn't expecting much and guess what? The orange juice was spoiled, the whole area was dirty, muffins were undercooked, sausage was probably reheated from the prior day and the staff member taking care of the “breakfast buffet” was also rude. She was mopping the floor with a dirty mop and people were trying to walk thru the “breakfast buffet”, and she did not care. So I grabbed an old apple and some hot cereal with milk hoping it wasn’t spoiled and went up to my room. I tried some of the coffee and it was watered down and tasted like it was also spoiled.
I would like to add that I travel frequently due to work and this was by far the worst experience I have had. You cannot ask a young female to stay in a room she can’t lock at night before going to bed. To make matters worse someone had placed rocks between the door and its jamb at the eastern entrance to the hallways (by the pool) so it wouldn't shut completely and lock. When people do this, it not only threatens their security, it affects everyone in the building. Anyone can just walk in off the streets and enter the building. And the worst part is that I encountered three different front desk staff and none of them were able to help IN ANY WAY. Horrible experience, pay the same and stay somewhere that cares a bit. less
