Not quite up to Plus standards, almost though.

First of all, this is a great location, and I have spent most of my time in the marina on a friends very expensive beautiful yacht. So I have been spoiled with the accommodations on the yacht, and to spend a night at the motel was a let down somewhat. (Which is not really a fair comparison). I also traveled from San Diego north through Cedar City, UT and saw how a remodel of an older hotel (the B W Plus in Cedar City), can turn a older motel into a very modern and special place. While the Island Palms is nice and a fantastic location, it was not one of my better experiences. I arrived rather late in the evening and wasn't told how to get in the door of the building where my room was located. I had to call the front desk to ask how to get in the building. (The young guy at the front desk was very nice by the way). The room was okay, however there was a cleaning odor that was not pleasant. The next morning I walked from my room to the motel restaurant and went out the patio door. When I returned I found the key didn't work for the patio door. (There was someone there quickly to help me get in my room, when I called the front desk). Here are the pros - The room was clean, good lighting, a big desk, a new big HD TV, a modern shower head with bathtub, great pillows, a wonderful view of the marina. The negatives were around the key issues, and the smell. I would stay here again in spite of my somewhat negative review, since the price is right for the location and views. One positive is the restaurant. I highly recommend it as the food (especially breakfast), and service is excellent. Plus the views of the marina from the restaurant are great. less
