Like certain other reviewers, we arrived to find this hotel in considerable disarray (August 2019). The temporary reception area was a cramped guest room, the swimming pool was unusable, widespread ongoing renovation construction was noisy and dusty, and we were initially given a room isolated with no stairway access (the old stairway had just been demolished and there are no elevators).
Our main complaint was that we had not been prepared for this when we made our reservation. Upon a later search of various web sites for the property we found one small notice along the lines of "enjoy our lobby renovation with us," certainly nothing reflecting the scale of what was actually happening.
The office personnel were doing the best they could given the conditions, and after some negotiation we were offered another room at a reduced rate, which we accepted for one night only (we had planned two). That room had been recently remodeled, so we have some clue about what the rooms will be like once finished.
Our room interior was just satisfactory, nothing special. A small bathroom and small closet cut into the space of the room. There was no sofa (we had a king bed). The small fireplace may be welcome to winter visitors but not to us in August. New carpeting, fresh paint, new tile, and new furnishings were a plus.
By far the best feature of this facility is its panoramic view of the red-rock cliffs around Sedona. Many of the rooms open on to large shared view terraces, comfortably furnished. We did not scout the entire property, but at least the east-side rooms on levels two and three are terraced. The pictures of these on the web site are what drew us to this hotel to begin with.
The breakfast room was intact, not yet under renovation. There was a relatively wide-range of food choices, as good or better than most chains offer. A small workout room contained three cardio machines, a basic set of dumbbells, and a bench (a sign says it opens at 8:00 am, probably in consideration of the guest room immediately next door). A shuttle service into town advertises that it runs every half hour. We did not use it.
For persons considering this property in the future here are some questions I would ask: Is the construction done? What view will my room have? Will it have direct terrace access? Can I park near the room door, or will I need to use stairs? Are all of the common areas (lobby, planned bar and restaurant, breakfast room, exercise room, swimming pool) completed and operating? If you find the answers satisfactory and the proffered rate acceptable then the views alone might cause you to consider booking here.
My three-star rating is an attempt to balance what this hotel might be like in the future (four stars perhaps) against our actual experience (two stars because of the construction). less

Thank you for your detailed review of your stay while in Sedona. I understand the frustration regarding the renovations in progress and apologize for any inconveniences during your stay. As of 8/20/19 the pool and hot tub are reopened. We are very anxious to see all of the exciting upgrades after our renovations are complete. I always suggest future guests call us directly to obtain information and check rates as we do our best to match rates that are advertised online. Your suggestions on seeking information prior to booking is wonderful and should be helpful to future guests. We hope you will return after our renovations are complete in November to check out all of the new upgrades. Thank you, Hope, Guest Relations
