I’m surprised this property earned BW Plus status. Not that it’s a poor property, but it’s nowhere close to the standards I’ve seen set during previous BW Plus stays.
Start with the good: very pleasant front desk attendant. It took about 5 minutes for her to turn up to check me in, but it appeared she had been doing house cleaning work elsewhere on the floor. The room was clean, spacious and pretty standard BW.
The bad: Trains. I really should’ve read deeper into the TripAdvisor reviewers. The overall high rating must be influenced by people who stayed on the south side of the building. If I would’ve read past the overall high rating, I would have seen the reviews mentioning the all-night train noise, which are accurate. The noise lessened as the night progressed, but still plenty of bells deep into the night.
Beyond the train noise, here’s another ongoing frustration I have with Best Western, including at this location. They send you an email the day prior to your arrival to encourage you to “pre-register”. You enter your arrival information and any requests. Great, I did that. But what’s the point of me taking the time to input those details if no one at the hotel is going to read them? I made a very specific room request -- knowing full well that they may not be able to accommodate me. So when I was handed the keys to a room on a different floor than I had requested, I asked if anything was available on my preferred floor -- and was cheerfully told, yes, there was.
The other disappointment was the internet speed. I clocked it at 1.49 Mbps, which is just really, really slow these days. I’ll never understand why hotels don’t invest in wi-fi to at least match fast food restaurants. (And preferably better than fast food restaurants, but at least match them!) I don’t need to be able to watch Netflix on my computer, but I do want to be able to check email without waiting 1-2 minutes for the email to fully load.
There’s another BW Plus in Havre -- but it also backs up to train tracks, so keep that in mind if you’re thinking about choosing between the two. Personally, I’ll go elsewhere during future visits. less
