Disgusting grotty and filthy hotel, run by a thoroughly incompetent manager

First I apologise for the length of this review, it’s the longest that I’ve ever written. That’s for good reason as there are things here that you need to know before deciding whether or not to book this hotel. Whilst I am certainly no snob I do have good standards of decency and cleanliness and these were far from met at this hotel.
This is a really basic, no frills dive hotel, don't expect any level of luxury here !
Lino on the corridors, a strange smell in the lift and rooms and lacking evidence of any level of maintenance, cleaning and good management. There’s paint on fixtures and fittings from when the hotel was renovated and the rooms are disgustingly dirty [see images of the filthy wash basin and the mouldy shower area]. A shower that is barely strong enough to wash the soap suds from your body when on full [see video]. Wires hanging out from around the lift area and the maids cart that sat in the corridor all day long.
Breakfast is a farce, the seating area has just 14 places which is wholly inadequate. At my visit the breakfast had no cereals, no eggs, no brown bread. When I complained about this, I was offered leftovers which consisted of sausages patties with white toast and fruit juice, nothing else. The sausage that I had was as greasy and disgusting. The biggest problem with breakfast is that each different member of staff tells you a different time that it finishes. I was told 9:30 at check-in. When I called down at 9:35 on the off chance that breakfast was still ongoing I was told again that it finished at 9:30. The next day I went for breakfast at 9:10 and it had finished at 9am, signs had appeared overnight in the breakfast area to that effect. A French lady staying at the hotel appearing shortly after myself had been told 10am cut-off. I complained about this and found that the manager simply blamed the staff and said ‘I don’t know why they are saying this to people’. Jennifer the Manager does not take ownership of issues and shows no willingness or ability to manage the hotel. I also noted a real attitude in the manager toward customers who complained whilst I was there, an attitude verging on belligerence, confrontation and viciousness not only with me but with other customer complaints. Finally and with all BW hotels, single use plastic cutlery is unforgivable in these more enlightened times.
The only good thing about this BW is the location which although in a sketchy area is very handy for all that Memphis has to offer. I would certainly not return and I recommend that you choose elsewhere and get a professionally run hotel. Jennifer the manager was confrontational and vicious when dealing with not only me but I witnessed with other customer too. A manager who blames her staff for problems rather than owning them herself. less

Thank you for your review, We are so sorry that you did not enjoy the stay in our Freshly renovated hotel. We have just completed a complete room renovation to All our guest rooms which includes New carpets, New Ceramic tile entry ways and brand New bathrooms ,New soothing Lavender and fresh Cream room paint, New Vanity's , New complete roll down Blackouts. This process was completed in February 2019. The breakfast area can get busy from time to time we are a small hotel. Our breakfast hours are and for the last 2 years been set from 6:00 am to 9:00 am daily. There are so many options for food in our area, Our breakfast last for 3 hours for most our of our guest choose to go out and experience the great foods Memphis has to offer and sleep in. So we are once again sorry if there was some miscommunication on the time of breakfast service. There was also some confusion on the photos as most of your photos are not of our hotel. We take all our guest reviews very seriously and investigate each one if a guest has an issue or complaint. So thank you for taking the time to send us the review.
