Oddly designed room, cramped and noisy

We wanted a hotel near the French Quarter, but hotels there are very expensive. We found this place at a (relatively) reasonable rate. It is a 5 minute walk to Bourbon Street, a 10 minute walk to Jackson Square and a 15 minute walk to Frenchmen Street. The streetcar stops right outside the hotel and can get you to most places you would want to go. There is on-site covered parking for an extra $28 a day. There is a nice courtyard with a pool.
They also offer a very good full hot breakfast which many area hotels do not. Breakfast staff were friendly and efficient.
So the location and breakfast were definitely positives. Our room was less so. It had a very odd lay-out. The bathroom door was directly in front of the bed (about 2 feet away), so if one of you gets up during the night and turns on the light, it's going to shine right in the eyes of your partner. The TV is to the left side of the bed, so if you like to watch TV in bed, I hope you like lying on your side. The bathroom was very cramped with the toilet right in front of the door, and barely enough room to close the door behind you. Our window looked out onto a wall and let in no natural light. There was a table, a desk, and 2 chairs all squeezed into a corner, and a chaise lounge which was handy for putting your suitcase on, because there was really no place to set up the luggage rack that was in the closet. Also there is a refrigerator but no microwave. Doors on our hallway made a LOT of noise when opened and closed. You had to yank hard on the door to close it, so it slammed and echoed in the hallway. There was a second hallway on the back side of our room, where you could hear people dragging suitcases and talking.
All in all, our room was absolutely nothing like the pictures on the website. It was cramped and dark. Immediately after checking in, I went to the front desk and asked for a different room. We had booked a room 2 months in advance, it was not a last minute booking where all they had left was the least desirable room. I was told they were full and there was no attempt whatsoever to do anything for us during our 5 night stay. We checked in at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. It seems implausible that all the arrivals that were expected that day had already checked in prior to 3pm, but I was told they were 100% full and there was nothing they could do. We spent over $1000 to stay here for several days so their lack of concern was disappointing.
Housekeeping opened our door one afternoon without knocking. Our room had already been serviced so I'm not sure why they were coming in, but they should always knock first. Housekeeping was hit or miss. Some days they failed to replace the used plastic cups. They made the bed and replaced the towels and that was about it. Water pressure was fair. Sometimes it was fine, other times it was so low the toilet would barely flush. Wifi was also spotty. I had trouble getting and staying connected.
Overall I think we will choose someplace different next time. The room was disappointing and the staff didn't care to do anything about it. less
