Just returned from two-week business stay here. Hotel is located 20 mins walk from the heart of the central area, in a run-down but peaceful area, but we chose it because it was near where we were working. It is small, with 40 rooms over four floors, and has no luxury facilities. The clientele seems to be mainly local, not international, businessmen.
We had suite rooms at a good corporate rate, and comfort level was fine even though the room was dark - poor ratio of window to blank wall - and rather old-fashioned in its decoration. Windows needed attention (dirt from recent building works outside and two double glazing panes misted over in the middle). Two light bulbs in room not working (three in a colleague's) suggests there is no regular checklist for keeping standards up.
The hotel's general facilities consist of a bar (dark but cosy) and a restaurant that was very little used. Breakfast was poor: cheap cereals, some fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, packeted bread to toast, cheese slices and warm fried eggs and sausages. Other eggs could be ordered on demand but the concept of a 4.5 minute soft-boiled egg was rather a challenge for the chef, with a hit trate of about 20% over my stay. Evening meals were mainly grilled meats and fish with roasted vegetables, nothing inspiring but at least reasonably priced, as was the wine. The kitchen ran out of dishes rather too often
For business travellers there is a 'business centre' which is full of the hotel's accounting records in boxes on the floor. But it has two working computers and a printer, so was fine to work in. There is also a large conference room with very gloomy feel and a musty smell, probably because no light is allowed to enter it and the windows are never opened.
The hotel's staff are young, friendly and very hard working. Delightful people who try their best, despite not being trained to the standards familiar to people who regularly stay in American Chains. This hotel is Moldovan owned and part of the BW franchise, and the difference with internationally-managed hotels does show! less
