Ex residents returned to Ilkley for 60th birthday party on Saturday 8th June booking 4 rooms in Craiglands, some staying 1 night, others 3 nights. We established rooms would be overlooking Wharfedale and comfortable.
Our experience cold chaos. No hot water in basins, baths or showers in any room, and despite a member of staff claiming that the hotel was 'old' and leave the hot water taps running for 10 minutes to get hot water, only tepid heat came through. Hours of frustration after a long day finished when we left for our superb birthday meal elsewhere. Returning to Craiglands at 10p.m we were staggered to be told the bar was closed!
The chaos continued, water for a strip wash was by boiling a kettle, having paid £673 for 2 'executive' rooms. We were offered alternative rooms, none had twin beds ,views or ANY hot water either and meant transferring - unaided- all our belongings.
Craiglands was understaffed from Saturday to Monday, we witnessed newly arrived people stand for 15 minutes before reception staff arrived.... security? General Manager arrived on Monday; he said all staff are told to warn every guest ON ARRIVAL, to run taps to ensure hot water, but not mentioned on BOOKING! Clearly he has never stood over the baths & basins for 20 mins, or witness his receptionist trying to discover which room had water leaks as she burst into our room. He gave 25% off our bill.
The hotel was clean, breakfast on Tuesday morning was superb, as were waiting staff.
