It was March Madness Time in Minneapolis, and the hotel that I typically stay at was booked, and since I had to work shifts up in the Andover Area I found this hotel. The hotel was really cheap for a suite, and the reviews were pretty good so I decided to give it a try.
The exterior looked fine, and the check in was very easy. The best part of this hotel was the staff, everyone was really friendly. I booked a suite and so this was on the second floor.
When I arrived in my room - #205 - I was really surprised at the Size of this room. It was quite large - however the light switch on next to the door didn't turn on any lights in the room, so I blindly had to stumble around and try to turn on the lights. Unfortunately the instant smell that I got when I entered the room was old cigarettes - and that is the worse part about staying in a hotel. I didn't even want to leave my luggage bags open because I was afraid my clothes would smell like that.
The room like I said was huge - your kids could do about 4 cartwheels across the length. It had a working microwave and small fridge. Normal sized dining room table and chairs. The sofa and chairs in the room looked so warn and old - this really needs updating. This room is huge and it has the potential to be really cozy. TV size is also small for the room.
TV channel lineup was great... so much better than the hotel I normally stay out. It had about 80 channels.
The bedroom was large - adequate room for closing and a large closet so long term staying this would be ideal - however again the smell would keep me from putting my clothes in there. NOW... a strange thing in the bedroom is that there was a "mechanical room" closet on the left side of the bed. With a key entry door. I found this kind of creepy - there was not "safety latch" or anything so it kind of creeped me out. I moved the nightstand and my luggage against it. You couldn't open it so as a young woman traveling it kind of was like a "psycho" moment for me.
The bed mattress was old but comfortable, HOWEVER when I turned down the comforter the was stains you could see through the white sheet that really gross me out. COME ON mattress covers are cheep so if it was a stained mattress cover then just buy a new one and replace it.
The bathroom was large with a Jacuzzi tub but I don't use those so I cannot comment if it worked or not. The shower was tight - I am 135 pounds and 5'7 and it was snug for me - I ended up leaving the shower curtain open because if I didn't it would stick to me and that is just gross. If my husband was with me, I think he would have had a difficult time with that shower... so just an FYI. Also the cauking around the shower bottom was very dirty and falling out. Plus the shower was so small there was no place to put your soap or anything just on the floor. Yuck. Good Hot water - Towels were soft and large (which I really like). The hair dryer worked.
Now moving on - I am pretty good at getting up in the morning and working out so I did. The fitness room was a disaster... I got on the treadmill, and it would not keep a constant speed - it would automatically speed up and slow down. Then the incline would go up, without me touching anything. Also, everytime I touched the control panel to change the setting back, I would get a huge shock. I lasted about 7 minutes and gave up. Then I went to elliptical machine and it wouldn't even worked. I ended up on the bike that worked. There were free weight but a majority of them were missing... only sets were 10 pounds and the heavier weights. The room was also very dirty.
I did not eat the breakfast, but that area was really gross - dirty. Not a lot of choices like other breakfasts I have seen. You could tell the tops of things were not wiped off. I was going to at least get coffee - but the condiment carosel with the creamer and stuff in it was dusty on the top and didn't look like it has been cleaned which was fine, but when I pulled out a half and half when I dumped it in my coffee it was solidified. It just grossed me out and I didn't get coffee.
For the overall value of what I paid for the room vs the space - this was quite amazing. I think it has potential if they could get rid of the smell and update the room and furniture. I also appreciate the friendliness of the office staff. less
