Recently I attended a charity luncheon and talk at this hotel in aid of the RNLI. On arrival,I have to say the tables were expertly laid. The staff had done a good job. However from there on in things went down hill!
There appeared to be a lack of staff. There was no wine list on the tables. There was only one bar person. The luncheon was rushed out before everyone was ready. The food was really bad. The beef was so tough you could sole your shoes with it. One or two guests beef was burned and was sent back. The gravy was thin and flavourless.
The crumble was ok ( you can’t go wrong with that, can you?) then the custard was in large school dinner type jugs (one per table)and was plonked on the tables. Elderly guests couldn’t lift them. Then coffee, for which I understand we had paid. £2.95 pp.for, was at first forgotten ,when it did appear it was obviously instant, lacked flavour and was unceremoniously placed on a table where we were expected to help ourselves. The charity group did their best, providing flowers for the tables and chocolates to go with coffee. All in all a disaster! It was so embarrassing for the Cheltenham and Tewkesbury charity committee who had arranged the lunch and talk. They have apologised to their supporters. The talk was excellent and enjoyed by all. What the speaker thought of the meal I dread to think, very embarrassing..The group had provisionally booked for a retirement event later in the year. I understand that has been cancelled. I for one would certainly think twice before going there for an event again. less
