I stayed here in a family room for 1 night. The room was clean but very dated compared to other hotels within a similar price bracket (vile patterned curtains) such as Premier Inn / Holiday Inn, but we chose this place because of the spa / pool. Evertything seemed fine until the time came to go to sleep... then disaster. We were in room 301 which was right next to the lifts and the double fire doors opening on to our corridor. It was impossible to sleep with the lifts whooshing up & down loudly and the doors opening and closing every few minutes. It was at least 01:30 before it was quiet enough to sleep.
In the morning we went to the pool. Although the water was warm enough, the seating area / general temperature of the pool side air was freezing, which did not make for a relaxing morning as it was impossible to sit by the pool or get out of the water at all without freezing to death. The jacuzzi was also out of order.
I asked the Spa receptionist about this, and he said it was normal for it to be cold.
The breakfast dining room was a similar temperature, which isn't surprising as there were freezing gales blowing through the central crack in the poorly fitting fire doors, which comprise part of the 'wall of windows' stretching down the length of the cold, unwelcoming dining room. I spoke to another guest who had to fetch her children's coats for them to wear during breakfast. The breakfast buffet itself was way below the standard of Premier / Holiday Inn breakfasts.
Upon check out, I informed the receptionist of my poor night's sleep due to the noise of lifts and doors, and so she summoned the manger. The manager stated that all the family rooms are located in the same rooms on each floor - by the lifts and double fire doors - and said no one else has ever complained about the noise before (THAT CANNOT BE THE CASE?!!£. She apologised in a half hearted manner, but concluded by saying "I'm not really sure what else I can say". Eventually I asked if they ever offer a discount in such circumstances - she shrugged and said "yes, we can do", and she gave me £15 off my bill. Without asking/prompting this would not have been offered.
I would not stay here again, and would not recommend to families due to location of the family rooms. Otherwise it's ok for 1 night.
