This Best Western hotel location is excellent...and that's just the beginning.
There are a lot of excellent things about the Best Western Plus hotel on Hespeler Road in Cambridge.
Location is one of those things. This hotel is close to Highway 401, which is very handy, and it is close to such things as stores, restaurants, a major shopping centre and -- more good news -- the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce's visitors centre.
We came to the Best Western Plus hotel from Brantford in the south, which meant that we followed Highway 24 from the north side of Brantford, through Cambridge (which has historic names such as Hespeler and Galt as you drive through it), but it was easy and we did not get lost.
But we did ask for a map at the big shopping centre near this hotel and guest services there had nothing. So perhaps, management there, or management at the hotel, could arm that guest services centre (at the mall) with some local maps and information.
The Best Western Plus in Cambridge stands out and is easy to spot from Hespeler Road. It is just south of the major highway (401) on the west side of Hespeler Road. If you drive past the front of the hotel, you will come to the Cambridge Visitor Service centre and it is very modern, well stocked with information and staff is helpful. I was helped by a fellow called John and then we went to check in at the hotel.
We parked on hotel property between the Best Western Plus and a restaurant next door called the China House. Then, it was a short walk to the main doors of the hotel.
We were checked in, very promptly and professionally, by a staff member called Janna and another staff member, assisting, called Catherine. Both were cheerful and made us feel at home.
It's difficult to believe that this Best Western Plus hotel is just over 30 years old. It looks brand new. From the entrance to the very spacious lobby, it's clean and bright with lots of windows. That is because of a major renovation done recently. Bravo!
When you walk in, there will be a large dining area on your right. There, they not only have lots of tables and chairs, but they also have an area at which breakfast is served. That area also have 24-hour coffee, tea, hot chocolate and (I think) you can pour yourself a juice drink from the machine there. We had coffee and hot chocolate and that satisfied our trio.
On your left, as you walk into this hotel's lobby you will see a business centre, with two computers, a snacks/drinks and sundries area and the reception desk. I used one of the computers to get caught up with my internet friends. The system worked easily and flawlessly and was free to use, as it should be.
After a friendly check-in, we took an elevator to our fourth-floor room, stopping to peer through a window onto a pool which is -- by the looks of it -- built in the basement. But that pool room is spacious, well illuminated by daylight and had we had more time we would have tried it!
This Best Western Plus hotel has 106 rooms. Our room was spotless. It had two beds, a tv, a coffee maker and was plush on the better-than-average side of things. There was a desk by the window. The window overlooked Hespeler Road and that could be entertaining, in a manner of speaking.
As we watched, a pickup truck and a high-end sedan rubbed body parts together and that matter wasn't resolved until the police attended.
If you are an out-of-towner, one reason to stay at the Best Western Plus, would be to go on a tour of the local Toyota factory. I didn't know they offer such tours until told so by John at the nearby visitor services centre. A tour of a car-manufacturing facility would be interesting.
Speaking of cars, there will be hundreds of them -- and trucks too -- on the nearby Highway 401 as well as on Hespeler Rd., but the sound of that traffic was never a bother to us inside the Best Western Plus.
Our of interest, I did go up to the seventh floor of this hotel just to see the view from an end-of-hallway window. I got to see Highway 401 from higher up than when you drive on it.
Overall, we would definitely stay at the Best Western Plus on another visit to Cambridge. less
