We booked this room through Hotels.com a few days ago. My two teenagers and I are in town to visit my grandma, and normally we stay in the town where she lives. But, I found this place that had a jacuzzi tub in the room at a reasonable price, and since all of the pools and hot tubs are closed because COVID, I thought it would be a fun treat for the kids to get to have a “hot tub” in the room. It was another 25 minutes past my grandma’s house (already a four hour drive for us), but it was going to be worth it to soak in a tub of hot water with jets!
Fast forward to check-in. Even though I had multiple forms of confirmation (emails and texts), there was no reservation in my name. There were also no rooms available with the amenities I had already had my card pre-authorized for. I called Hotels.com and the gentleman who assisted me was incredibly helpful. He called the hotel with me on the line and verified that the reservation had been confirmed by the hotel, even though the woman at the front desk was adamant that those particular rooms hadn’t been available for weeks. We finally agreed to a room with no jacuzzi tub but still large enough for the three of us to be comfortable; and only after I had to pull up prices of their partner hotel 15 miles away for the same room type they had available. They wanted to charge me $155; $15 more grab what I paid for the room I didn’t even get. The same room at the same chain 15 miles away was $83. I refused to pay more than that.
They were amiable to that arrangement and we moved on. I would like to point out that through all of this the Hotels.com representative was phenomenal. I was highly impressed. Went to go pick up food for us and was able to navigate the area fairly easily. It’s similar to my small town where there is pretty much one main street, and it’s literally called Main Street. Super creative.
Great food from a local Chinese restaurant (Happy Family - highly recommend). However, we discovered that apparently trucks/cars travel up and down Main Street at night revving their engines... and the parking lot directly across from the hotel was also occupied by loud cars and trucks. I had gone out to my car and noticed this, and when I came back in I asked the gentleman at the front desk if that kind of noise was normal here. He said yes - obviously it’s a highway (Agreed, but there are seriously people out there racing - this isn’t highway noise.) I asked if they offered ear plugs to help guests counter the noise...he said yes. Then pointed me to the little “store” they had in the lobby so I could purchase ear plugs. At that point I just went up to my room.
The room is nice enough; walls had dirt smudges that I was able to wipe off but overall not bad. The customer service, however, is severely lacking. If you could have seen the faces the front desk woman was making as she dealt with my Hotels.com representative, and with me, you would understand why I’m left with a bitter taste about this this property. Thankful for a comfy bed but that’s about it - will never stay here again. less
