Breakfast at The Pennine Manor Hotel.
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two nights on the 14th and 15th July on a bed and breakfast deal. Arriving on Sunday afternoon, we were happy with the room, unpacked and had a drink outside in the garden area. We enjoyed our evening meal, my wife having the fish and chips and I having the Scampi starter, followed by the the Pennine-Burger, which was served in the bar/lounge area. The following morning we went for breakfast, after some cereal and juice we ordered our cooked breakfasts. I ordered the Full English, while my wife just asked for bacon and mushrooms, the waitress apologised saying that the kitchen had ran out of mushrooms, so she said that just bacon would have to do. On arrival, my wifes bacon was inedible, hard and burnt, and although served hot, my sausage was too hard to cut, the bacon was also hard and burnt. As well as this, my poached eggs were disappointing, one being just the yolk, the other had a hard yolk with the white being uncooked. The waitress apologised and said that she would inform her manager of our complaints.
In the afternoon, the Kitchen Manager, Nicholas, was very apologetic and offered us a complimentary bottle of presecco, and said that he would take the breakfast cost off our bill. We decided to eat our evening meal at the hotel and it must be said that the food was excellent, my wife having Scampi, I had the soup starter and Sea Bass for the main. This was followed by a very nice Cheeseboard. The following morning we went down for breakfast, hoping that we would see an improvement. Alas this was not to be, once again the bacon was inedible. I had decided not to try the breakfast again and asked for the smoked haddock instead, only to be told that the fish was not availabe. I ordered the poached eggs on toast, only to find that they were no better than the day before. When we went to settle the bill, we were told that both breakfasts were taken off the bill, along with the cost of one of our evening meals. So, compensation was made to us, but we would have prefered it if the breakfasts had been good, nice and tasty. After all, breakfast is to most guests, one of the most important parts of a break away. less
