First off i must say that all of my dealings with the staff was pleasant and efficient.
Unfortunately the same can't really be said for the hotel.
I had room #31 which i was assured was "one of the nicest rooms", upon getting to my room the room key (swipe card) didn't work (1), i went back down to reception and got a new key cut, back up the stairs to find this one wasn't working either (2), back to reception, this time the receptionist came up with her master key and got me into the room.
In the room the decor is OK with a desk and tiny flat panel TV. The TV had been moved to face the bed so i went to move it so i could sit at the desk and do some work while watching the news. Unfortunately the TV wall bracket was only just being held to the wall with one screw, the other two had fallen out. I gently moved the TV back and left it alone. I still wanted the news on in the background but the batteries in the TV remote had run out, i took the back off the remote and rolled the batteries and got the TV on.
Once i had sorted the TV i sat down to do some work, i was unable to do so because although i was able to log onto the free wifi there was no external internet connection.
Having given up on doing any work I headed out for the evening for a curry in town. When i got back to my room after a great meal out i found that my room key failed to work again (3). Reception had shut for the night so i had to go to the bar, the barman opened reception and cut a new key, this too didn't work (4), this time the barman came up to the room and on the third try the key worked.
I thanked the barman and headed in for the night.
Unfortunately the locking clip on the huge sash window was broken so it didn't close properly and with the wind outside it was shaking and rattling, i wedged some paper in the gap and managed to quieten it down.
On a positive note, the bed was very comfortable and i got a good nights sleep.
Breakfast was a fairly standard offering, good muesli with good coffee. I didn't go for the cooked breakfast but the selection looked good.
After breakfast i headed back to the room and of course my room key didn't work AGAIN (5), back to reception again, there was a chamber maid at reception and she came up to the room with her master key, to show her the issue i tried my key again, it flashed green and red and she immediately said "ohh yeah that's the battery in the lock running down". I had told the receptionist and barman of the flashing lights and this is the first i heard of a battery issue.
It's a shame because the staff are great but they are let down by the over all experience, if i had had time to use the gym or pool my review might have been a little higher. less
