I visit this hotel regularly for a meal with some friends as it is a good central point for us all to eat. However, the convenient location is not the only reason we keep coming back. The food is very good, competitively priced, well presented and efficiently served. They accommodated our party of 7 easily, although I advise booking in advance at the weekend as the restaurant can get very busy.
There is a set menu of 3 courses for £12 which initially raised alarm bells with me; was it possible to serve quality food at these prices? The answer apparently is yes! The menu is extensive with plenty of choice for all tastes, including vegetarian, gluten free and low fat options. Portion sizes are generous and food is served quickly, which would seem to indicate it is pre-prepared, but there is actually no loss in quality for this speedy service. There are a couple of items on the menu that incur a surcharge (eg steak is £5 extra) but my colleagues who had these extras assured me they were worth every penny.
Staff are friendly and efficient, very organised with service for both food and drinks; after our meal we asked to adjourn to the very comfortable bar/lounge area to have tea/coffee and they were happy to accommodate us. We actually sat for a further hour just drinking and chatting, and it was nice not to feel pressured to leave because they wanted the table back.
The bill was very reasonable, around £21 per head for a 3-course meal, tea/coffee and at least 2 soft drinks each. Well worth every penny for such a lovely, relaxing meal. We have made this our restaurant of choice and I have been back on several occasions with other friends, family and even work colleagues. less
