An extremely jaded hotel. I've never stopped in a Best Western before and I was immediately alarmed to see the raised eyebrows at the customer site I was working on when they asked where I was staying!
On check in I found there was no shower in my room. Apparently I should have requested one. To be fair, they moved me no problem. The replacement room, like the first, was extremely worn, the entire hotel has that back to the 1970's feel, in a bad way.
Staff were pleasant, breakfast was pretty good and the locations good but:-
As mentioned by others, the creaking floorboards are a nightmare. I mentioned this at the reception. Apparently the reason they squeak is because 'its an old building'. Well yes, it probably is but I've lived in many old buildings over the years, and when I found a squeaky board I screwed it down to stop it squeaking. The shower was pretty much unusable. It had to be turned on 10 mins before you wanted a shower, the hot water takes an age to come through. When it gets there, its uncontrollable and dangerously hot. I mentioned it to the friendly receptionist and she did have the shower head replaced whilst I was out, but that doesn't fix root cause. The curtains began to fall off the rail in the bedroom after the flimsy stop came away. I'm sure the room service folk must have seen this but it wasn't fixed. I mentioned a lack of plug in the sink as well but its still like that after four nights.
Apparently, and this is from a third party, the hotel has been up for sale for some time - maybe the reason little is spent on the place?
Anyway, there are a lot of good reviews on here so I guess one mans meat is another's, well, not exactly poison, but it's just not for me. I want a hotel that's up to scratch, is proud of itself, and I most importantly, I feel comfortable sat around the place. That wasn't the case here and I ate out every night. From the outside, it looks absolutely fine, but the devils in the 'inside' detail.
I'm expecting a comment from the management as I've noticed they have done re: other reviews. If you do, great, I welcome your feedback, but please don't try to blame me along the lines of "I'm sorry we could not meet your expectations". My expectations are completely reasonable. I would therefore much prefer it if you wrote and said "Mr Simmons, we've resolved all of the issues you mention". That may help to gain the trust of future potential guests less
