Stayed a lot in York but never stayed here as the price has always been a little more than I wanted to pay (usually between £110 and £130. Got a last minute deal on a site for £90 for a standard double with breakfast so thought I'd give it a go. It's in the process of refurbishment in the main public areas so not looking its best right now.
On check-in, the receptionist was very polite. Went up to our room to find it was right next to the lift and had twin beds not a double. The website paperwork said double, their booking for said twin. Reception were great, quickly agreed to swap our room. We were given a room in a separate building across the forecourt. We were happy with this as it seemed a little more private and quiet (except for the main road that was a little noisy when windows were open).
The room itself was very large, double fronted. Large bathroom with bath and separate shower. The main room and bed was very large. My only negative was that the décor, carpet, everything in the room was very old and tired - not, in my opinion, worth over £100 - the usual price per night. Spend a bit of money and get to the standard of other Best Westerns and it'll be perfect.
Breakfast made the stay worthwhile. A nice bright restaurant overlooking Monkbar. Great staff again here, very polite and helpful. The breakfast was faultless. Great fresh ingredients, well cooked. A range of full English, breads, pastries, cereals and fruits. Seriously one of the best cooked breakfasts I've had - Look at my other reviews, I'm hard to please!!
Will wait for rooms to be updated before my next visit but the quality of that breakfast will remain in my memory for a long while! less
