My friend and I visit York every summer for a weekend break and have stayed in a selection of hotels but this one was the first to take our bags up to the room ready for when we came back and to call the room about half an hour after we had checked in to ensure everything was ok!
Well done. It made us really feel welcome and that the staff cared. We requested a bucket of ice and two glasses for the bottle we had bought with us and it was delivered within five minutes. Room was clear and comfortable. Some rooms have a lot of corridors/stairs to get to them and are on the road, so you can't open the window - no air conditioning. Our room had a huge chimney so there was air!
The hotel is about a five minute walk from York Minster and uses the local multi-storey car park for guest parking. You have to check in and then go around the one way system to get to it but it is just along the road from the hotel. You can buy a day pass for £5 from the hotel, which gives you 24 hours but we decided that we wanted to spend Sunday being tourists so purchased two days. The hotels have a scratch card system so the receptionist just took the dates off and we left both cards on the dashboard. You simply drive out as there are no barriers.
Breakfast buffet included a good full English with cereal, porridge, yoghurt, fruit , a cold cuts selection as well as pastries, with fruit juice and hot drinks, which were served to the table.
All the staff were curious and helpful, providing a free map for us to find our way around. less
