This was our third visit to this hotel, but the first time with our dog. We have always upgraded before, but this was not possible with the dog, so I wondered what a "standard" room would be like. The room overlooked the courtyard/car park, but was quiet. As usual, a comfy bed in a clean warm room. Tea making facilities good, including biscuits. The room was more spacious than I had expected... plenty of room for the dog's bed etc.
The young staff members were all very polite and attentive without being intrusive. In particular, Matt who served our evening meal, Kimberley at breakfast and Harriett on reception.
Since our last visit, the dining facilities had been altered, so that the cooked breakfast was ordered and tailored to your needs, instead of a serve yourself option. There was an excellent choice of cereals and fruit, croissants, jam etc. I was particularly impressed with the "fruit cocktail" having had some in other hotels where they consisted of a couple of citrus fruits and the odd grape!
We reserved a table for dinner and noticed that the dining area had also been refurbished. The food was well prepared, hot and tasty. I had the chicken breast with sweet potato mash and a side order of stilton sauce. My partner ordered the steak which was cooked to perfection. A nice touch was the crispy onion garnish instead of the usual onion rings.
Another lovely break... we'll certainly visit again. less
