I believe that hotels need to be considered and rated according to the price you pay - you can't expect champagne if paying for beer. Meanwhile there are certain basic standards that need to be met in each price range.
In the case of the Lansdowne, these were well exceeded.
I was seeking a reasonable hotel with a sea view in Eastbourne at extremely short notice and when I found the Lansdowne could accommodate us, I booked .. Albeit with trepidation. Meanwhile I'm happy to report now that we were delighted, and so much so that we extended our stay three times whilst there. Admittedly, the good weather helped our good humour! If you're looking for a sophisticated, hip boutique hotel, then this undoubtedly isn't the place for you. However, if you like traditional comfort and old-fashioned service, you will be pleasantly surprised as both are available here, and at a reasonable price. It is well situated right across from the beach and within easy walking distance of everywhere you might want to go.
Even if the rooms are slightly in a time warp, they certainly answered all our needs in terms of facilities and comfort and the staff were extremely helpful in supplying anything we needed. Downstairs, there are several different lounges with comfortable armchairs, all well spaced to meet current regulations.
In all honesty I can't recommend the food in the restaurant, but whatever we had in the bar, was well presented, tasty and good value.
All in all, I'd like to recommend this hotel for offering very good value, and complimenting them on their staff (especially Elliott, deputy manager) but all contribute to making stay at the Lansdowne a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. less
