Stayed overnight at the hotel Saturday 20th August .The visit was to sample the hotel prior to attending a function next February. The hotel looks very smart and welcoming from the outside and is in a good location with easy access to the town. The booking in process took a while as there was only one member of staff on the desk and it was peak time and the hotel was busy, another member of staff would have speeded up the process. However the welcome was warm and friendly , it was checked that the rooms were ready prior to allocating them . Our room on the 2nd floor was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The decor was a little dated but did not effect the comfort of the room. Only ate breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast buffet very good with other choices available as table service. The restaurant was very busy at breakfast but staff kept the buffet topped up and there was minimal wait for drinks and toast at the table. Check out was smooth as there were two people on the front desk.
Pros. the hotel is large with lots of lounges and places to sit and relax, the service is very good and all the staff are very friendly . The whole hotel is spotlessly clean . It is in a prime location. The food we sampled was good. The rooms are very comfortable.
Cons decor is a little dated in places ,it smells a little musty in some places, fake flower arrangements and some ornaments are old and showing some wear and tear. Some of the advertising in the hotel is old fashioned ( ie the table with teapot etc advertising cream teas) A little less clutter and some fresh flowers along with a tidy up of the lounges, having more windows open to let fresh air in along with some nice smelling diffusers would lift the public areas and make them fresher and more welcoming.
A very good all round hotel, clean, welcoming, friendly staff, good food, great location, with a bit of general TLC would be even better. Look forward to return visit next year less
