My room (300) was cosy, and I liked the large bathroom. The hotel is quaint, with squeaking floorboards and uneven floors. All adds to the atmosphere. We were a group of runners doing a marathon the next day and leaving too early for breakfast. The receptionist kindly said he would put out cereal and fruit as well as tea and coffee making bits for us so we could help ourselves. I was very grateful for this.
There's a comfortable bar we met up and had a couple of drinks in the evening. One friend has a large burger which came with chips at close to 9, when they stop serving. There are good choices for places to eat in Dorchester. We needed plain and filling, and were spoiled for choice. There are quite a few places in the new Brewery development, which is where we ate in Zizzis. Nothing's too far from the hotel.
I was in room 300 on the top floor by the top of the stairs and a fire door. It was noisy when people came and went - I felt someone was about to come into my room. I put on the chain and locked the door, so I felt safe. Noise is a bit of a problem - from inside and outside the hotel, but given that it's an old building in a town centre, it wasn't a surprise.
Staff were friendly. If I was being completely honest, I'd say they weren't dressed smartly. Shirt out and creased ... Doesn't give the best impression.
Overall we all enjoyed our stay and would happily return. less
