I am reviewing the lodges here and not the Best Western hotel. I was unable to find a separate listing for the lodges. Very good impression of the grounds on arrival and we were quickly checked in and given our lodge key and a map of the grounds. The road to the lodges from the hotel isn't ideal ... there is a massive drop on one side of the road at certain points so extreme care is needed at night! The speed bumps are also too high and are not adequately marked so please take care and take it slowly down the track to the actual cabins, especially if you have a car full of people and cases etc.
We stayed in cabin number 37 and we very happy with it on the whole. There are 3 bedrooms, one double with en-suite, 2 other twin bedrooms and a family bathroom. The living space is huge, lovely dining table which comfortably seats 6 people, large and well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, fridge, freezer, hob, microwave, toaster, kettle...all in good, clean condition.
The veranda wraps around 2 sides of the cabin and has pretty good furniture. There is also an iron, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, towels are provided, bedding is good condition, plenty crockery (cutlery in cabin 37 is rubbish and certainly needs to be replaced soon!).
Our only real grip was that the double bedroom was absolutely covered in cobwebs. There were masses of them hanging from the ceiling and attached to the boards behind the bed as well as a thick layer of dust. We had to give the room a good vacuuming before we were able to get into bed.
The setting in the woodland is lovely and peaceful and there was plenty wildlife round and about. The is no WIFI and the phone / 3G signals were also patchy and unreliable. You can use the WIFI in the hotel but it's a long trek to the hotel and at night I wouldn't venture out even by car unless I was desperate. Normally the hire charge would include use of the leisure facilities but in view of the fact that the leisure centre burnt down last year, there are currently no such facilities. The new leisure centre is due to open in April 2016. I wouldn't go back again before this new centre opens as I would really love to have an early morning swim!
I would recommend this place but there are no facilities on site for children to play if this needs to be a consideration and the lighting isn't too good at night.
There are some nice places to visit nearby as well. less
