The hotel is located on Karl Johan Gate, which is right in the heart of all of the shopping and restaurants you could ever need and also very close to two or three large subway stops if you want to venture even farther from the area.
The property itself is gorgeous. It is a little dated design-wise, but that is because it is constructed inside a building from the late 1800s - with lots of mirrored and wooden design touches and a beautiful central staircase. The fact that it is built in such an historic building also has its negatives (though they are quite minimal): the rooms have large vaulted ceilings but are actually quite small when it comes to the square footage to walk around or store your bags.
The beds are comfortable but take up the majority of the space of the room. The bathroom was nice and spacious compared to others I have seen in Europe. There is also a large arm chair in the room (which can be used to stack luggage if you need more space!)
The rooms also can get quite hot in the late summer and early autumn months, after you've been trekking all day and come back to rest. We were able to keep the window ajar to let some of the cool night air in, so I would recommend doing that if you get too hot.
The free breakfast is wonderful. Lots of hot and cold options to choose from: waffles, sausages, beans, eggs, fruit, cereal, yogurt, and many more options. Also some great juices and coffee. Food can be very very expensive in Oslo so I recommend taking advantage of the breakfast so you can knock out one big meal of the day before you head out!
I would say this was a good hotel overall based on the location and the lower price (when Oslo accommodations are usually so expensive). Take advantage of the free breakfast and the public transport being so close (Nationaltheatret and Stortinget stations are both very close)! less
