I chose this hotel based on its location. I was on a short shopping trip and needed somewhere relatively close to the airport and within walking distance of shops. Wal-mart was right next door; there was a mall just a bit over a mile away; many other shops were nearby and there was a nice variety of restaurants. Best Western was a name I'd known since my childhood and it had always been a great experience. So, based on the write-ups I'd read on another site (my bad), this hotel fit the bill.
As another reviewer noted, this is a hotel that was built around the 60's, judging by the style. The problem is that it's not being as well maintained as it could be. I'm not sure if the owners are riding this pony until it dies from exhaustion, or just cheap, but it's in such a great location and could be so much more. It's a shame, because it's really got a lot of things going for it. So, to be a bit more specific:
Pros: 1) you cannot beat the location. 2) The staff are friendly and very helpful.
I'm sorry that I didn't catch her name, but the young woman who was working on Friday, 26 July at around 4pm was one of the most efficient I've ever seen. Although working on her own, she was handling a large influx of folks, phone calls, etc, and did it with minimum waiting. She deserves a raise! 3) The outdoor areas were very clean. The pool and spa area were great. The ice machine was conveniently located. 4) While not 100%, the room seemed to be well-insulated. Although I was near an area where trucks (2) had pulled in, I never heard them. I did hear a few gabby guests pass by, but that's normal. 5) HOT WATER was plentiful. This is important to me. 6) Packages that I had sent to the hotel (shopping trip, remember?) were kept in a safe location until I arrived. 7) Considering the location, the price was extremely competitive.
Now the cons: Cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanliness. 1) The carpet should be taken out and shot. I don't know what all the stains were (blood stains? dropped food? nocturnal emissions?), but I tossed my things on the bed and ran (!) to Wally's World to buy flip-flops. It was absolutely filthy and obviously has never been cleaned. The same was true for the couch. I never sat on it, but only used it to hold my suitcases. 2) The little glass ledge by the sink still had toothpaste on it from the previous guest. How did Housekeeping miss something so obvious? 3) Visitors. My first morning there, I looked up to find the largest cockroach I've ever seen looking back down at me from the ceiling. It dropped to the floor and ran under the refridgerator. I didn't chase after him. Another one did the "death dance" in the corner of the bathroom behind the door. He got a naval farewell. 4) The bed has absolutely no give. Try to imagine sleeping on a dining room table and you get the idea. I will say that the sheets were clean and the pillows were fluffy.
You can't beat the price, but you must lower your expectations. less
