My husband and I were saved (SAVED!) by the excellent service provided by Marli (I think? I hope that’s her name!) as we were on Devil’s Tower after a long day when we realized we would never make it to our next city we had planned to reach before by at least midnight. At 4pm I called the Sundance Best Western desperate for a room and (despite the call dropping and poor reception), Marli got us squared away with a fast reservation for that evening. We drove straight there in the 40 minutes she said it would take us to get there, and got us checked in.
We asked about food delivery in the area and the pizza recommendation from her also saved us. That was the first night on our journey across the country from west to east coast that we got to bed by 9pm and just slept finally getting some rest. The room was quiet, clean and had everything we needed (fridge/microwave etc). Is the hotel a bit dated as some other reviewers have mentioned? (furnishings in room etc) Perhaps. But it’s clean and I’ll take a slightly dated looking hotel room over something fancier. Also the parking lot is right outside and well lit which was a concern to us.
We slept like logs for 9-10 hours. Very quiet hotel!
The complimentary breakfast - while not fancy - did the trick. Yogurts, toast variety with bagels and cream cheese and cereals with hot coffee. There were some eggs and gravy with sausage too. I only had the eggs which were pretty good actually. I read some previous reviews here from people complaining about the breakfast, but I think it must be tough to run a large kitchen area to equip weary travelers for many hours in the morning and keep it going and hot/perfect! This is not a fancy brunch or restaurant, it’s a hotel with a complimentary buffet of coffee, juice and food right there down the hall from your room so you don’t have to seek out another breakfast joint or do another drive through McMuffin sandwich. This is especially important if you’re driving long distances and constantly checking out of places that may have nothing at all to offer! So don’t complain too much fellow travelers!
We next stayed at a Best Western in South Dakota that considered itself a “Best Western Plus” and there was NO complimentary breakfast at all (the two BW’s had pretty much the same room rate) and what was offered was an onsite (pricey!) restaurant which was sit down and we didn’t have time for anyway so we skipped that one. This South Dakota BW even took the coffee AWAY at 9:30am. Boo.
But back to Sundance, WY. They do a great job there and Ms. M at the front desk saved us on that long drive from west to east! Kudos to her! less
