We booked 2 rooms on Best Western points. You do have to pay a per-person tax at checkout even with the room being free. It was about 14 francs for 2 adults, 2 kids for one night. We had rooms 401 and 402 which were connecting in their own little wing. They were generally quiet, although with the windows open you could hear the clock and the kitchen below, but once the windows shut, the noise was gone. Room 402 was smaller but had a nicer bathroom and a nice soft mattress. Room 401 was larger with a fold-out futon but the beds were rock-hard. I ended up folding my duvet in half and sleeping on top of it to make the bed manageable. Both rooms had a fridge with 4 included waters and Toblerone, nice touch. Being Gold members we got coupons for 4 free drinks at the bar. Within a block of a Starbucks and a couple of good Italian restaurants. To get there from train station, walk to entrance, take a left around the corner, then turn right on the first street and it's about 3-4 blocks down. Sadly we did not get to spend much time in Bern but it did seem like it would have been a great location if we did get to tour the town. I would stay here again, but I would probably ask for an extra duvet so that I could have both covers and something soft to lay on, ha! Oh, ladies, the hotel only had a soap dispenser in the bathroom that they call "toiletries" - the soap is supposed to be for body and hair - um, no, trust me, bring your own shampoo and conditioner. But even with minor hiccups I would definitely stay here again. It was a bit hot when going to bed with no A/C but it cooled off fine after an hour or so, so the lack of A/C was not an issue. less
HOTELBERN, Manager at Best Western Hotelbern, responded to this review
Dear Kelly P
Thank you very much for your Feedback.
The fee you had to pay is called city tax. The city tax serves as "money for the city and its tourism". (The tax will not be credited to the hotel but to the City). As far as we know, this fee is calculated all over the world (whether with voucher, Best Western points or other bonus programs).
We are very pleased that you would stay with us again in the future.
The rooms as well as the equipment are a little bit old. We are currently renovating the entire hotel - so the beds and soap dispensers will also be replaced. :)
We are looking forward to your next visit
Best wishes from Berne, Eleonore Peracchia
