In the Gruyere area, very close to the famous cheese production center and to the Cailler chocolate factory, a decent, fairly cheap hotel. Free parking for guests, very convenient just in front of the entrance. Staff at the check-in very friendly but surprisingly unable to speak English (!!!)🤔 . We made it with a mix of German, French and Italian. Executive room for 3 was very spacious and decently furnished (typical BW design and setup). We noticed the absence of the TV remote control, of any drink or snack in the minibar and of the information folder (where you normally find checkout info, breakfast and restaurant service hours, menu, room service info, emergency numbers etc…). We thought most non-disposable things were removed as a COVID measure and didn’t ask. It was very surprising to receive an email the day after checkout asking if by chance we mistakenly packed the TV remote with our stuff 😳. A couple of notes about the hotel restaurant: although it claimed to offer French and Thai cuisine, in the menu there was only Thai food. Now, in the area of some of the best cheese in the world, in the very place of the Fondue, I sincerely doubt tourist are around for Asian kitchen… Anyway, the rice noodles and wok were quite good and the dessert (local) was excellent. Last comment about the breakfast, especially under COVID situation, I struggle to think about a hotel with restaurant that doesn’t offer a cooked, served breakfast! Not even eggs and bacon at the buffet! Also from a COVID-protection point of view this makes little sense: self-service buffet has been removed wherever possible in favor of served food under controlled conditions. Here they have a restaurant available but they go for self-service buffet with unprotected baskets for bread, brioches and fruit, shared tongs for serving and so on. This is quite puzzling. less
