Aalter is a small town almost equidistant between Ghent and Bruges so this hotel is ideal for visiting either or both cities. It's just off a major highway as well so access is relatively easy. A train station is a mere 10 minute walk away giving you access to a network of places to visit in the area.
The hotel was clean and quiet. The room was spacious with comfortable beds, and an automated blind to completely block out daylight, which might come in handy for those who need total darkness to sleep. Our room came with a refrigerator, which was idea for keeping drinks cool.
Our two negative experiences were the staff and food service. While no one was particularly gruff, those working the front desk didn't seem welcoming and often gave simple, one word answers to questions; almost as though it was an effort to be cordial. When we decided to go to the lounge of an evening meal, we sat at a table for almost 10 minutes before going to the bar to ask about service. Again, in as few words as possible, we were told, "We don't do dinners." (A restaurant in town got our business instead.)
So, that aside, this is an ideal place for cleanliness, comfort and location. I'd return again for those very reasons. Just wish the service was a little more welcoming, hence the three stars. less
