Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo

Perfect location , a short walk from the train station and just across the road from the fabulous beach , close to restaurants and bars and a supermarket. We had such a lovely stay last year we decided to come back this year. The hotel has rooms in different buildings , this time we were in the new rooms , lovely but I preferred the room we had last year in the main building , older interior but with a wonderful balcony to sit out on. Breakfast is great , lots of choice although perhaps some more fruit would have been nice. The pool is very nice , they provide towels on asking and there are plenty of sun loungers or shady spots to sit and relax. For us it is the close proximity to the wonderful beach which draws us back and the promenade simply stunning with small beach bars for refreshments and loungers if you don't like laying on the sand. The staff are friendly and helpful and we will definitely return. less

Firstly I would like to reiterate what previous reviewers have said about the staff,they are very friendly and welcoming.Carmelo is definitely an ambassador for the hotel and is passionate about his job.Reception staff Marta,Leya and David were exceptional .Thanks for all your help. Hotel room was spacious and clean It was our anniversary when we arrived and a posy of flowers and toiletries was a lovely touch.thank you. We did have an issue with the shower going hot and cold which we reported but it continued to happen. In a hotel of this calibre I do not expect to have paper cups for tea and coffee in the room.Even the budget chain hotels have mugs.We did get bitten a lot take your mossy spray Planes ,trains and builders......what can I say ,noise ,noise and more noise. Planes....the hotel is in the landing flight path for the airport.Aircraft land approximately every two minutes .so wheels are down..not quite 24 hrs but nearly as it is an international airport .surprised no one has mentioned this before.being by the pool is not very peaceful nor sitting on the balcony.Nice pool shame it’s so cold. The pink flamingo inflatable did more swimming than humans p.s. inflatables are not allowed! Trains ....the train station isn’t very far away hence you do hear the trains and sometimes you can just catch sight of them.Also some of them are high speed and do not stop so they hoot as they go through also some freight trains go through early in the morning also hooting.The motorway is just the other side of the railway line too. Builders...would have been nice to be informed building work was taking place. In the narrow one way street adjacent to the hotel on a building plot foundations are being dug out...diggers in use and pick up trucks coming and going...again by the side of the pool and close to balconies.Also opposite reception there is work going on ,on another building. There seems to be a lot of regeneration work going on in the area.Sadly it does seem to be quite a tired resort with several closed restaurants next to some really upmarket ones. Not a lot happening in the area....so don’t go looking for nightlife. Would have returned back to the UK earlier had it been possible .So depressing just didn’t want to be there. Rant over....just take earplugs luckily we had some with us..but didn’t expect to have to use them all the time. Barcelona is amazing.we used the hop on /off bus and saw some amazing places.get tickets online. Sagrada Família....wow..again get tickets online. To travel on the train,bus tram and metro buy a 10 Trip ticket at the station for 10.20€.this can not be used to go to the airport though. Sitges......our haven .What a pretty place and buzzing with life..would have stayed in this area if we had known about it.Two stops down the line away from Barcelona. less

This is my 3rd visit to the hotel, and I’m sure there will be more. I don’t stay here for sightseeing, I come for somewhere to recharge the batteries and think about nothing more challenging than what to have for dinner! The hotel won’t be for everyone: 1. The hotel is located in Platja de Castelldefels. The resort, and indeed the hotel, are suited to people who don’t seek a ‘rocking’ place. Other than the beach itself, there are a few restaurants dotted around, and that’s pretty much it. Suits me down to the ground, but won’t suit everyone. 2. The hotel is about 15 mins drive from the airport. You’ll feel you’re pretty much in the flight path of the airport when sunbathing by the pool. If aircraft noise would upset you, this isn’t the place for you. 3. The hotel serves as a business location that also caters for tourists. There are 18 sun loungers (yes I counted!) and no daytime activities there is smallish pool though. 4. The train line heading towards Barcelona runs pretty close to the hotel, so you’ll notice that from time to time. 5. It isn’t especially cheap to eat in the hotel. Breakfast is usually included in your stay, but everything else you’ll pay for. The hotel offers a set menu for 3 courses costing 20-23 euros (drinks not included) as well as a standard menu. The food is OK but not superb. Now, having written all the above, you may think why would anyone stay here. For me, I love the solitude of the hotel and resort. I like the staff - there’s an elderly chap who seems to work from dawn till dusk, but unfailingly cheerful and welcoming. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned to a decent enough standard each day. I think the hotel would also be ideal if you wanted to visit Barcelona, but stay outside the city centre. It’s about half an hour by train from the local station, which is but a 5 min stroll from the hotel. If you plan to do this, look to buy a particular train ticket. It costs 10.20 euros and can be used for 10 journeys within zone 1, which both the resort and Barcelona sit within. The only proviso is the journey must start and end in zone 1, and take no more than 75 mins. Do also note, you can travel on more than 1 train at a time within the 75 mins. You also don’t need a separate ticket per person. Go through the barrier then pass the ticket to your companion (s) to do the same. As such, this is a great value option for independent travellers to get to and from the airport. Please do be aware that this ticket CAN’T be used on the metro system. less

Have been staying here for a mix of both business and pleasure for the past 10 years. It is like meeting an old friend and Carmelo has seen our children grow up. In a world of constant change this hotel just delivers great service and provides an excellent base for both the beach and train into Barcelona. Rooms on second floor overlooking the sea are the best for quiet reflection sitting on the balcony. The rooms in the plaza do not have balconies and best suited when on business trips. Someone will always find fault whilst we would not have been regular visitors over the years if there were problems that were in control of the hotel... Another satisfied stay... less

The location of this hotel could not be any more perfect! Directly across the street from the beach! The views from the balcony were incredible, especially the sunset. There is a cute little restaurant right on the beach really causal with a great play are for kids. The hotel for very clean, safe and the staff were very helpful in planning things to do and telling me about the area. I can't wait to go back again. This hotel is great for solo travel and well as families. less
