Good location, good staff but why no air con?

The hotel takes some getting to if you’re with a car - need to call the hotel so the security bollards can be lowered. Oh, and if you’ve got an XC60 with a roof box you won’t get in the car park anyway. But the hotel front desk did allow us to park it in the courtyard for the duration of our stay (2 nights).
The hotel is well maintained, and looks pretty enough inside. However, we’re having an amazing summer and there was no air con so we had to beg the staff to find us three working, safe-for-purpose desk fans which really only helped a little. So we had to leave windows permanently open, which didn’t help my fear of heights!
That said, the staff were really helpful (only two people staffing the front of house and operating the bar, but they all did it well. One of the kind chaps even put BEIN Sports 2 on to allow us to watch Leeds Utd dismantle Stoke in the opening game of the season!
We had booked interconnecting rooms for our kids and ourselves, but they were adjoining rather than interconnecting. Fortunately, we trusted our sons enough.
The lack of air con really needs to be addressed though, because it’s the hotel’s only major problem. It’s location and staff are excellent. less

Thank you for sharing this review. We are pleased to read that you enjoyed staying in our literary hotel with your family. The decoration was themed after the French writer Gustave Flaubert, and our staff is always happy to share some anecdotes about this local writer!
I wish to answer your question about the air conditioning. Just to let you know, having air conditioning is not a criterion for a 4 star hotel. To complete this information, it is true that we are going to proceed with the installation of air conditioning this autumn. For the record, this is a long and complex process due to our location near a house which is listed historical monument. We chose to start taking these measures and investing in this equipment, in collaboration with the French architectural conservator.
Thank you for pointing out the professionalism of our teams, they were pleased to assist you during your stay.
We hope to welcome you again in our new rooms for your next stay.
