My son and I stayed at Best Western Plus Hotel le 18 for five nights at the end of our vacation in France. The hotel is clean, modern, and comfortable, and it has staff members who speak a variety of languages, so check-in was easy. We arrived on the hottest day ever recorded in Paris, so we appreciated the air conditioning in the room. The hotel is in an interesting, multi-ethnic neighborhood and is near a plethora of restaurants and grocery stores of various types, shapes, and sizes. It is maybe a 20 minute walk from the top of Montmartre, and we had a great view of Sacré-Cœur outside our window.
As I said in my title, the location would be excellent if not for some glaring deficiencies in the Paris Métro system. The Porte de Clignancourt station is only a few steps away from the hotel's front door, and its subway line serves Gare du Nord, Gare de l'Est, and the Île de la Cité. So theoretically, the hotel is well served by the Métro. However, on our first day a service interruption forced us to walk a mile and a half to the hotel in the 107 degree heat, carrying all of our luggage. Another service interruption forced us to walk more than a mile on our way back from sightseeing. Service interruptions can happen anyway, but we found that in Paris they are relatively frequent and met by the authorities with a sort of "oh well, you are on your own" attitude. I have experienced interruptions on the subway lines in New York, Boston, and London, and in each of those cities the transit authority provided buses to shuttle passengers to the next open station. Not so in Paris. Furthermore, the Porte de Clignancourt line does not run until after 10 am on Sundays, so if you plan to use it to get around the city on that day, you need to be aware that you will not be able to get away very early. The transportation issues are not the fault of the hotel, of course, but they are something that travelers need to be aware of if they are going to book at this hotel. less

We are so happy to read that you have met your expectations regarding our services and the pleasure to explore our multi-ethnic neighborhood.
Regarding the metro interruptions, I do agree with you, it is really hard, and the workers live that everyday !
Moreover, renovations and modernizations are undertaken during summer.
Thanks for your time and your exhaustive review about the charm of our area.
