We needed a nice place to stay a few days in Hondo. We thought this was the best place to stay, based on newness, affiliation with a good brand, and we had heard good things. And.... we thought wrong.
From the beginning, the hotel management was extremely rude, unfriendly, and surly. We had been on the road most of the day, and I called ahead to see if we could check in a bit early (normal check-in is 3pm). I was told by the person answering the phone that we could check in early, two of our room would be ready.
When we arrived at 1:30pm, there was another person at the front desk (Paula), who grumpily advised us that we could probably get one room, but we would need to wait for the next room until normal 3pm check-in. When i pointed out that the other person (Petra) had been nice and said we could have these rooms to freshen up before we needed to meet with family, I was again advised that check-in was 3pm,
Once we arrived at the first room, it had been made up, but the housekeeping of the room wasn't impressive. The room felt very tired and dirty, carpet felt gross walking on it, and there was mold in some of the places where the caulk around the tub had gaps..... Not really appealing, but we really had no choice.
I went back downstairs to talk with Paula at the front desk, and it just wasn't a very pleasant experience. As noted above, very grumpy, not personable, and unfriendly. We decided that maybe it was just a bad day. However, the other management we met at the front desk weren't very pleasant or personable, either..... I think perhaps that's just how they are.
On the other hand, the housekeeping staff was friendly, and were doing their part to make the stay comfortable.
Breakfast was okay, but just okay. Nothing really cooked there it seems. Iit appeared that all items were frozen, microwaved, and put out on display. As an example, the scrambled eggs were actually a round disc of eggs.... Biscuits were clearly not made anywhere near there, etc....
Would I stay here again? I think next time we go for family, I'll check out the Executive Inn before booking the worst Best Western I've ever stayed at in my life. less
