I wish to tell you about changes that have taken place at Best Western Historical st augustine..that have annoyed me greatly, and will cost the hotel at least a few customers.including me!
I /We have been a faithful customer to this hotel for near the past 20 years. I am not privy to whether ,or not, this hotel changed because of new ownership or the new head manager. I can tell you things have changed greatly. I will tell you why.....
I/We have been visiting Saint Augustine for Decades . we had come apon this clean ,yet abit run down , in need of updating hotel about 15-20 years ago. The best part of this hotel was the management and the staff. They were like family. They treated you like gold. They Would always bend over backwards for you. And because we were faithful to the Best Western brand and especially their hotel, year after year, aways staying for weeks at a time they would always accommodate Me/us with way cheaper prices than we could find online. We just figured it was their way of saying thank you for coming back to us every year. So they took care of us in every way possible. I /we would come down every year and stay for such a long period of time it worked out for all parties. In return I would tell all my friends when you're going to Florida this is the place to stop and rest and vacation. Over the years I have sent many many people to this hotel,so its a win win for everyone. My friends all stayed there and were given a decent price and thanked me .

Up until now!
They have updated the hotel . The old carpets are ripped up replaced by fake wood floor ,, new tiles in the bathroom, new fixtures etc. updated furniture.they did a nice job, so I guess that's how they justify raising price s and now offer no give or bending with their pricing.I think They see more stars rating hotel that is deserved in reality."in reality the hotel is not downtown it is on the fringes of the historic district with a lovely freight train going by all night. Just keeping it accurate and real.
I truly miss the old management. Bob is gone. He is now managing other hotels. Bob who had work at this hotel for many many years left the hotel in good hands with the next manager Tom. They always took care of me or when I came down with my wife but when I came down with a big group of friends for bike week. they always took care of us. The new head manager whether by orders or just the way she does business no longer will give me or us a break. She did drop the price down a little bit from their normal pricing but nothing beyond what I could've found on a discount site on the computer. so she basically did nothing special for me nor did she care to. The assistant managers are still there ,and tried to give me a good discount due to me being a good customer over the years,but the head manager quickly over Ruled their request on the computer. I stayed at that hotel for nearly 2 weeks and was not given a break.
I run a successful business in the Hamptons on the East End of Long Island in New York. I know how to treat very good customers of mine. If I jacked up my prices and would not give my good customers a break due to the fact that I bought new equipment or shiny new trucks I would have no business. If it is the owner that are dictating this policy I would say bad move. Always in the past because of getting a decent break and liking the people that work at the hotel I overlooked many things over the years. I did not complain . I did however on many occasions speak with them about things that I felt were not right. Asking them if they would please take all the leftover food that the people before me had left in the refrigerator. Only to repeat this request day after day until it was finally done. Asking them to please have housekeeping run a vacuum over the floor as my boots had pick up Debris and deposited it on the floor. Tried that request for many days too,no results. A couple of times, out of the 2weeks I was there I had to ;spend a little time on the computer so i put a do not disturb sign on the door. Once I was done with my work and heading out ,I would go down to the office and ask if they would still clean the room ,as it is now mid afternoon ?they said yes! would have it done. But mkkof course "it was not". I even had to ask them would they please change the sheets on my bed? after eight days of staying in the room. I just figured if you're going to charge me full price and you're not going to give me any kind of a deal at least treat me with respect as I am just a normal hotel customer.

it quite clear to the assistant manager that I will not return to the hotel!! and I will do my utmost to let everybody know that I have told about this hotel the changes that have taken place. Bad news travels fast! you have lost me as a customer and I will almost guarantee that you have lost at least eight more. The break that you could've offered me as you have done in the past now brings you a loss far more than what you would've offered me .so in closing I would you say foolish decision, bad business move.
