Stayed here for a few days per week for several months.
- staff are really lovely
- good value
- near the station
- there's a big park just up the road.
However, the Hotel is a conversion job and the building can't take the volume of traffic, stairs a floors groan when people walk along, doors clap. Really annoying when you're trying to sleep.
External noise can also be a problem, depending on which room you get. Actually doesn't matter which room, traffic noise at front, other noise at side. No air conditioning, so you have to have window opened.
The worst thing is the other guests. Especially at this time of year when they are tourists. They tramp along the corridors noisily (and see above), engage in loud conversations, play loud music, reenact the Long March in their rooms, at any time up to and including 03:00 am. The worst part is setting off the fire alarms at all hours, presumably because they don't understand that the hotel is nonsmoking.
The breakfast is good apart from the idiosyncratic refusal to serve bacon. Also no one could tell me what the sausages were made of, despite my asking.
Would probably use again, but not at tourist rates.
