Thought we would give this hotel a try after the devastation caused by storm Desmond in Dec. 2015
All of the hotel has been refurbished to a good standard in keeping with the character of the hotel and location. Our room was fresh, with new bathroom and although not large, was tastefully put together, comfortable, with a lake view. Dining and reception are well presented and clean. Only down side is the resident's lounge which has the ambiance of a nursing home and felt uninviting an featureless. A bid log fire and some fluffy settees would transform this. The reception area is far more inviting which is where we relaxed.
Right in the centre of Gleridding, no need to use the car. Short walk to the lake and ferries. Several cafes and a good shop opposite. Easy access to the fells. Lovely refurbished beer garden on the river bank which should be popular in summer. View of the fells from the front, over the lake at the rear.
The food was excellent. The restaurant served good food, well presented. My only criticism being that the menu did not change enough so after three nights we were struggling, BUT the hotel was very quiet and this may not always be the case. Breakfast was delightful, with freshly prepared hot food and a good choice from the buffet. The bar at the back has a varied menu, is not overly dear and serves good quality food.
Overall we had a good stay. Very comfortable and relaxing. Enjoyed the hotel, setting, food and the staff were very helpful and courteous. Would recommend and would be happy to return.
