Me and my partner were on a glamping trip in Ullswater for a few days, our first time in the lake District. We chose a walk from our camp to Glenridding on Thursday 18th May which took us around 3 hours, by the time we got there we decided to have a coffee and a sit down outside before heading back, before this we got an ice cream each from the shop just over the road.
We chose this hotel as they had a seating area round the back.
We chose a table where we sat down, took our boots and back packs off, and my partner had emptied one bag looking for plasters for me.
Suddenly a member of staff come outside towards us shouting at us we couldn't eat our own food, saying were not allowed to consume our own food on the premises and that she had been watching us from the window!! my partner replied that we were only finishing our ice creams! She never asked us if we wanted anything to drink or a menu, just simply turned and went back inside! causing everyone to look at us, it was very embarrassing.
The way she handled this in my opinion was disgusting! my partner went back inside to speak to the manager about the way she had made us feel, and she said I am the manager, and continued to argue with him. Another member of staff also decided to get involved by saying "you're only angry cus you don't like what we told you"!!!
I have never experienced customer service like it, especially from someone in a management position.
By all means greet us then tell us we cannot consume our own food, but don't shout at us like were kids across the garden so others can here, and not even bother asking us if want a drink or anything to eat!
I've stayed in Best Western establishments all over the world, with my previous job as a flight attendant and this is not the standard I have come to expect from Best western staff. The manager at this hotel showed zero customer service skill and was just simply nasty to us. With Glenridding being such a small tourist town I'm almost certain you should be at least pleasant to tourists! it was very disappointing.
Awful memory of the holiday, will be letting everyone know. less
