What a surprise! We saw the weather was going to be "spring like" on MLK weekend and booked this hotel last minute on a Friday afternoon and took off from Atlanta the next morning.
Our expectations were low - a 2 "starish" hotel in Fort Walton!? - been decades since visiting Fort Walton and memories were of a somewhat low end, seedy kind of place. But this hotel was the only choice from Pensacola to Panama City with a beachfront room available last minute. (Singer-songwriter fest in 30A booked up all the good rooms)
This damn place is awesome! Right on the beach - like leave your door open and hear the waves while you go to sleep close.
Old building that has been remodeled into a delightfully tacky retro hotel - the swizzle stick lounge has a name indicating it would be a dump - but it is most definitely not - I don't drink but my wife went in for a cocktail and I joined her later after golf - great crowd and bartender. They have a framed collection of swizzle sticks from all over the place - antique drink shaker collection - just super cool.
Breakfast is Meh - but still way better than expected- good enough to prevent us from going elsewhere for sure - yogurt, bagels, hard boiled eggs, fruit, waffle maker, juices, milk, cereal, bagels, bacon, sausage, biscuits, automated bunn coffee - only pseudo-complaint was the weird processed looking fried eggs in perfect circles - what the hell is that? Bottom line is you can eat a healthy breakfast or clog your arteries - they have both options available.
Beds were comfortable, room was old but freshly painted and carpeted - nice HD TV - very quiet once the bar closes at 11ish - serious water pressure in the shower - all in all tastefully decorated, quiet, clean, and comfortable.
This ain't the ritz - but I swear to god I would stay here again and again over stuffy Rosemary beach or the Ritz at Amelia island, or Captiva, etc. Played $25 golf a $10 Uber ride away, ate some killer steamed seafood and went to sleep with the sound of the waves - still cannot believe it was only $320 all in for 3 nights - I have paid twice that for one night and not had as good an experience.
Believe the reviews on this one - but understand this is Fort Walton and not Palm Beach and you will have a great time... less
