Looking for a reasonable & clean place to stay one night pre cruise, during spring break. I booked this best western quite a while back & got it for around $160, for a large 2 queen bed room. I don't understand the expectations some people have from some of the reviews I've read. You should not expect a luxury hotel when booking a best western - the accommodations here are clean & in good repair. The staff are friendly and helpful - this is the best you can do at this price point and often places that charge far more miss the mark.
The breakfast food was fine, and had a decent variety. Scrambled eggs, sausage, a good assortment of breads, danish & bagels (although the toaster was not working) cream cheese, butter, fruit, a waffle maker / batter and yogurt / cold cereals. Also juices, coffee, tea etc. The room is small, but if it was too crowded you can simply gather the food you want & go to your room to dine. My only quibble was, as mentioned many times before in other reviews, the terrible flow of the area that you go to access food or beverages. It would be a simple matter to improve it 80% just by A) having a few stations to offer different food items, instead of grouping it all along one small wall, or B) at least situate the coffee maker & cream, sugar, etc away from the food & across the room. And having several trash cans available where people may be opening cereal boxes, or cream & sugar packets to doctor their coffee. As it is, people who don't want to dump their trash on the countertops set their food down, fight their way out of a crowd to get to the one trash can, and then try to get back to where they left their food. Another fix would be to offer trays to carry the food, but by reconfiguring the food station it would work as well.
Wifi worked well, and there is a fantastic Greek food place close by in the strip mall on the other side of the McDonalds. We didn't take the shuttle to the cruise port, but maybe I should have. Had the front desk call a taxi, but it was a long wait & worrisome as several people ahead of who were also waiting for taxis.
Temperature control in the room was a bit of a challenge. I don't like very cold a/c, and this seemed to be full blast & freezing if it was on, but if shut off the room very quickly became hot & muggy. Still, I'd stay here again if in fort lauderdale the day before a cruise. The bed was very comfortable and the room clean. I worked as a motel maid for a summer when I was in college, and know what to look for in making the sure the room was cleaned properly. At least 50% of the time I need to ask the room or bathroom be cleaned again (even at the disneyland hotel). Not here, it was good.
One more thing, I was impressed by how good the sound insulation was between rooms. A very loud family checked in late in the day, with many screaming kids. Even the adults seemed to only shout instead of speak, slam doors, hoot and laugh at the top of their lungs. I was worried we wouldn't be able to sleep. But the noise was only terrible when they were in the hallway, or I was in the hall outside my room. Our rooms shared a wall, and while I could hear some noise through the wall it was greatly muffled. It's a testament to how good & solid the walls are, because otherwise even earplugs wouldn't have been enough. less
