A LOVELY PLACE. EXCELLENT CLEANLINESS, CONDITION, RENOVATED!
You know, it always seems to be the same thing. The people leaving the most turgid, rage filled reviews on a property are usually people you wouldn't even let in the front door of your own home. That said, I have stayed not once, but several times at EL RANCHO in Morro Bay during this year. I have nothing but good things to say about the TWINS BAY INN (which the EL RANCHO is now known as.) First, let's start with the property itself. The rooms have been recently redone completely. Yes, this is a time-warp motel from the 50s....just like out of an episode of "HIGHWAY PATROL". Some might not like that. I happen to be one who does like it. The rooms are small, typical of the era. But that's the point of staying at a place like this; folks pick this because it IS a time warp. Despite their size (remember, this was an era where families grew up in 1000sf houses!) the rooms are in EXCELLENT condition. New bathrooms, very nicely done. Nice litho art on the walls. New carpet, paint, ceiling fans, on and on it goes. For condition, and for cleanliness, it can go head-to-head with the spendy properties of Pacifica Hotels up in Cambria. The parking lot is clean, well lit and the staff watches everything like hawks. The only thing I can even comment on as a small criticism is that the lady manager could soften her manner and project a bit more welcoming warmth; however I know this is a cultural thing one finds; but some Americans do have an issue with. Notwithstanding that, I can only say any criticism of the condition, cleanliness, presentation or security of this delightful little motel is, in my opinion, unfair and moreover, unjust. And my bona fides is a 36 year career in International Group Incentive travel as a senior executive. Which involved staying in some of the world's absolute best hotels. If this hotel were a dump I'd be the first to say. QED. By the way, the Mexican Restaurant on site is not bad! Good for a full breakfast if the continental the hotel provides isn't quite enough. It's reasonable, and the huevos rancheros will warm you right up on those damp Central Coast mornings! less
