We were a family of 4, in a party of 10, staying at Derwent Manor on September 26th for a special family celebration.
This is my 5th time at the hotel and we have always enjoyed and had good value for money. Often we have taken advantage of DBB deals, with bottle of wine, as in the case this time. ( 3 course meal ) Great value when you have a family !
I have always stayed in a family room, which are really spacious, having 2 double beds and chair and table area. We had a nice selection of toiletries, in the room too.
The leisure club and pool isn't huge, but it has everything you need for a couple of hours and is very clean. A bonus too, especially if you have kids. Changing rooms have been refurbished since our last visit and were much nicer.
If management is reading this, i would like to take this opportunity, to say your staff in the restaurant that night, were fantastic for our evening meal. As requested, they had arranged a round table in overflow restaurant room, next to main one. (Only long tables in other room) As it happens, we were the only ones in there that night, so we felt like we were private dining! The table looked lovely and the balloons and extras we had brought for table were all ready for us, when we arrived and there was background music on, for most of meal. Staff were attentive and on the ball, checking when i wanted the cake bringing out and were really pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was great , particularly the belly pork and sticky toffee pudding!!! My mum had a lovely night...thankyou. Also this room is now hugely improved with new lovely carpet and chairs. Staff informed me still a few more changes to do, but it really feels like a proper restaurant room now.
The hotel has been modernised in other areas since our last visit and i understand this will continue. The outside decking/seating area is very nice, as i felt it was something the hotel lacked - I have visited in the summer and there wasn't really anywhere very pleasant to sit on a nice day, apart from picnic tables, near the leisure complex. The new area leads directly from the bar and is a welcome and needed addition.
The 2 main functions rooms look lovely. Although the main one has the stunning and huge chandeleir lighting, my favourite is the smaller of the 2. It looks really great. Very plush and classy and the mix of old and modern has been thought out really well. Gorgeous !
The bar area has a pool table and dartboard and is comfortable, although i think some of the furniture and the fabric on the seating areas are showing some wear and need refurbishing soon. However don't let this put you off.
Breakfast was very nice with good quality bacon and sausages. Variety of pastries, cereals etc. The self service breakfast buffet is better in my opinion, than waiting for a cooked breakfast, as before. You still need to ask for fried or poached eggs from kitchen, seperately, as only scrambled eggs on buffet? Would be great if everything was available.
Overall another good stay. No complaints and we are comtemplating a longer, family new year break. in 2016.
