This hôtel looks somewhat functional and unprepossessing on the outside, but this belies the interior which is smart and fresh. Pirmasens is not a particularly inspiring town, but if you have reason to be in the area (the surrounding Palatinate Forest and the villages located in it are well worth exploring) then you could do a lot worse than staying at the City Hôtel Pirmasens. The rooms are comfortable, the staff exceptionally friendly, and the breakfast bar well stocked and varied. The one bugbear is the on-site parking, which is both limited and difficult to maneuver around if, like us, you have a large vehicle and are not lucky enough to get one of the half dozen level parking bays. On a couple of evenings we chose to park in the street because this was easier. Also, the traffic noise at the front of the hôtel can be rather intrusive for people like us who are used to country life and it is worth asking for a room located at the back of the building if possible - although even there the traffic in the surrounding streets is very noticeable with the windows ajar. less
