Stayed for 1 night, in an Executive Double room, taking advantage of a Best Western offer. We also included the breakfast option in our stay
The hotel is located just north of Southampton, and is on a combined University and Science park. Please check with the hotel for directions, as our sat nav took us to a lane directly adjacent to the site. The Hotel sign is part of the larger site sign, so check first to avoid getting lost.
The building is very impressive, and our room was overlooking the front lawn. The hotel was very warm (i heard other guests mentioning this to staff), - due to anticipated cold weather, so we ended up with the heating off, and windows open for most of our stay. Good size room, and the mattress was firm, and we enjoyed a good nights sleep. Very light sleepers should note that with the windows open, you will hear the 'humm' of traffic on the M27 - a mile or so away - but it wasnt disturbing for us. - Otherwise, the windows are double glazed, so keep them closed, and, if necessary, use the provided fan in the room.
There are pool and gym facilities, but they are in a separate building a couple of minutes walk away, (which we didnt use, so cant comment on), so just dont expect to be able to pop down from your room in a dressing gown !
Nice big grounds, and lots and lots of parking. The hotel does a stay and park offer for those guests who may be going on a cruise from Southampton, (including transport to/from the docks), so this may be of interest to some readers.
Didn't eat in the restaurant, but had decent sized bar snacks (sandwiches with salad and crisps/chips), and there was a good range of options for breakfast - cereals, breads, fruit, yoghurts, and cooked 'English' breakfast from the hot plate - with some other options individually cooked. The staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.
The check out time is advertised as 10:00 - this applies for Monday to Friday, and its 11:00 on Saturday and Sunday, so you can have a bit more leisurely start.
Overall, we felt it was very good value, and in well kept, impressive looking Georgian manor house. Perfect location for anyone about to embark on a cruise, or planning to spend a few days on the south coast. less
