We stayed for a weekend on 10th March. We were welcomed by the receptionist at check-in which all went smoothly, we did ask for if there were any deluxe rooms available but they were all sold out but it did not matter as we had a lovely room, clean and fresh with a bath. Double-glazing kept any noise to a minimum and the room looked like it may have been newly refurbished, although apparently it was done 3 years ago so was holding up well. Maybe we were just lucky with our room but you have to appreciate the throughput of people and that not everything can stay new for ever. There was a 5' double bed and tea/coffee and free wi-fi available. Everything you needed for a one or two nights stay.
We had a 3-course meal with our package and there were no complaints at all. As it was part of our TravelZoo package there was only the wine to pay for a small premium of £3 on my starter. The menu had a good selection of different meals from fish to steaks to vegetarian options and our plates were hot and well presented with reasonable portion sizes for us.
Our mattress was comfortable and we both had a good nights sleep. Coffee started the day with a biscuit before we went down for breakfast. We were quickly directed to a table and coffee was served. You can also order kippers or Smoked mackerel, which does take a few minutes to cook, so we both went for the buffet. There was everything that liked from cereals and fruit, croissants and cold meats to fried or scrambled egg, sausages and bacon, mushrooms etc etc. We both enjoyed our breakfast and could find nothing to complain about. The waiter kept our coffee filled as we were eating and was attentive in noticing when plates were empty and taking them away.
The grounds looked lovely although the weather on our day was rainy so we did not explore or use the spa as we didn't have time but there was a lot to offer here with several function rooms for meetings or weddings. Its also a good place to start your cruise as its only a few minutes drive away from the port.
Check out was efficient and they checked we had enjoyed our stay and looked forward to seeing us again.
Would stay here again and recommend to friends. less
