Although this hotel is located right on the beach; all of the percs of an oceanfront stay are obvious. As for the hotel itself, we were left more than disappointed in regard to price paid over value.
Lets start with check in. The girl at reception was slightly less than amiable. Our check in was an interruption to her life. Next, we arrive in our room on the 6th floor, ocean view. The A/C was so loud we had to call the desk. They said they would send someone up to check it out. So we waited about 45 minutes not knowing if it was a problem that could be resolved. We would not have accepted this room if the problem persisted.....so we stayed, waiting, before we could unpack.
We checked in on a Friday late afternoon, check out Monday morning. Here is a list of all that we "noticed" throughout our stay.
There is absolutely no security in this hotel and underground parking. The underground garage is open to the main street and anyone can just hang out there. We walked in on a small party of young teens, drunk and still drinking. Who knows if they were guests of the hotel or just hanging out in the shade of the garage.
Parking is a mess. If the hotel is full, outdoor parking is all taken so you are forced to park underground. Very limited spaces here too. If you go out to dinner or out for the evening, when you return, there will be no parking spaces available.
we happened to get the very last spot in the farthest corner of the garage. Getting out of this spot was difficult and I damaged the front fender of my vehicle.
About our room. 1st the a/c as explained earlier.... the unit was changed out.
Our vanity sink drained so slowly almost at standstill. the vanity overhead light worked only sporadically with the light switch.....an electrical problem perhaps????. Hot water to this faucet took so long that so much water was wasted waiting to get hot water. The hair dryer was in poor working order also. It smelled like burning hair when you first turned it on, also, not very powerful. The vent in the commode part of the bathroom was filthy and housekeeping put clean towels up against it. We had to leave them a note to either clean the vent or leave the towels somewhere else.
Our patio door to the balcony was so hard to open, it took brute strength to open it. The maintenance guy said he could oil it, but then sand would cake into the track creating a bigger problem.
As our stay was for a few days, we opted to not have clean sheets everyday. On the second morning, our bed was made by just pulling the sheets up.....the under sheet not really straightened.
The elevators are filthy. On arrival, someone had previously spilled some caramel popcorn. Throughout our stay...it remained in the tracks of the elevator door.
A terrible smell at our vending machine/ ice area continuously. A strong sewer smell by the entrance at the front back corner.
Pool water remained opaque throughout our stay. It made me wonder if the hotel checked the pool daily.
Dining room......there is only one staff dedicated here. She is so overwhelmed managing the volume of guests that the health aspects of the food must surely be jeopardized. She is cooking, replenishing foods, directing guests, trying to keep things clean, refilling condiments. One day a large order came in on a dolly by the supply company, in the middle of rush time breakfast, through the main dining room door. In the midst of the chaos, she was required to sign off on the order and check. There was no checking done here.
Free WiFi but no HBO
I realize this is way more info than most guests require, but it all adds up to a hotel not really well cared for. It is an outdated building that needs major help. The only bonus here was being right on the beach. Staying here was no better than being at a "no tell motel" I do not feel that I received the value of my over $400 3 night stay. less
