Just had a 2 day stay at Burnhall Hotel, Visiting family that was on holiday in Easingworld
On arriving into the grounds of the hotel, it does looks like their website showing a Victorian Manor Country House Hotel and Grounds.
But in fact most of the rooms are in a Three storey extension at the back of the hotel they look like a block of run down seventies style flats with terrible net curtains.
Their website does not show these rooms I suspect because It will put some people off staying, it definitely would of put us off.
We paid extra for a executive room, thinking that it would be a Better Room, in what we thought was a Victorian Country Manor how wrong was I. It was a very basic room in a terrible Extension,
The bed was 2 single beds pushed together with a miss match of bedding, white king-sized quilt cover with a double duvet, and a creamy valance I rely don't know what size the Valance was supposed to be but looked terrible. The carpet was market and dirty in places. The bathroom was small and the tiles rely needed a good clean, The shower over the bath had a very small shower head and was weak, getting out of the shower was dangers, there is No grip rails, and No bath mat so the bath is slippy, (Please be careful getting out of shower,) also recommend that you take your own toiletries as the bottles you to get are very small for 2 people, We had no bathrobes or slipper as advertised.
The luggage rack is in wardrobe because there is no where else to put it, but this makes it difficult to hang longer cloths on the rail.
Our view from the window was lovely, a horrible broken wood fence, yes I know most of these rooms do not have views but at least make it look better by just painting and repairing the fence.
Advertising the rooms as a Executive Rooms, and the Hotel as a Victorian Manor Country House Hotel and Grounds. Is misleading it might of been this at one stage but is not now only the front of it is the old Manor House
Executive rooms implies better, but our room was No where near better, If it was I would hate to stay in the standard rooms.
I did go down to reception as soon as we arrived because I thought maybe we had been given the wrong room but sadly it was not the case, so we had no option but to stay, did also comment on the missing bathrobe but they were no help at all just commented that they should be in your room.
The breakfast was ok, Restaurant staff are smartly presented but no warm welcome, it's more like a self service canteen than a hotel environment restaurant. Cooked breakfast was just barely warm, consisted of bacon, sausages that had a strange taste and texture, mushroom, scramble eggs and beans and dried up black pudding, a few cereal, some mixed fruit, and yoghurt, we did have some fresh fruit the second day, but no continental, No one mentioned that we could've had poached eggs or Fried eggs cooked to order only found out because the next table requested them, it was just a basic breakfast Really not that good value for money.
Even when it is a buffet breakfast which I knew when I booked I am not impressed by having to stand at them terrible toasting machines to make my own toast, I can do that at home, when
I am away and paying for it I expect it brought to the table, they bring you tea and coffee so would it be that much bother to bring you toast.
The Bar area is small and there is not enough seats and the seats and tables are a disgrace, the chairs are extremely dirty and sticky, one of the chairs had Dangerous nails sticking out of the side, the table are marked and scratched.
There is some settees in the reception but no relaxing area.
We had no bother getting a car parking space.
The park and ride is not near the hotel you will still have to drive there about 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic,
Wifi is ok and the TV has quite a few TV channels Plus a movie Channel,
There are better hotels just out side York for the same price, with free parking and then you just get the bus in to York if you don't want to pay for parking, so the park and ride is not an incentive to stay at this hotel.
The hotel rely needs some money spent on it Especially in the Bar sitting Area to bring it up to the Standard of some other Best Western hotels.
I know the manager will probably not agree with this review but the attached photos say a lot, may be he could take notice of some of comments some people make and act on them the hotel does have potential to be better,
They do have a few suites that are up stairs above the conservative in the manor part of the hotels and over looking the gardens so may be theses rooms will be better. But I will let you make your own mind up if this low budget hotel is for you.
If you get a rely cheap deal then maybe it will be okay, its a case of you get what you pay for,
But when you pay full price the hotel is definitely not good value,
We will definitely not be Returning less
