We got a very good deal for a standard room on a Friday evening. The staff in reception are very welcoming and very good at their job. The standard room was spacious, it was clean and comfortable. It was noticeably cold on arrival as the window was open and the heating turned off. We quickly rectified this by turning the radiator on. We ate in the restaurant and we were soon asked what we would like to eat, an apology was given that they would return, but having then waited indefinitely for the return we had to get up and ask for the service. We ordered the bottle of wine and a jug of water. The jug of water arrived very quickly without any glasses to drink it with. The bottle of wine we ordered quickly appeared in a single glass. The slow cooked pork was a mixture of tastes, the crackling was very crisp but overpowering with its salty taste. The vegetables were extremely bland and overcooked. The cabbage and bacon it was served on was extremely good but there were some spices in the pork that did not work with the apple sauce on top of the pork. Last time we ate here the food was very good. This was very disappointing. Despite the poor service in the restaurant we like this hotel. We will return. We forgot to turn off the radiator when we got back to our room and it was so warm I had to do it in the early hours of the morning. less
