I really liked this hotel. Every person on the staff, from the front desk, to housekeeping, to the dining room, was extremely friendly, helpful, and courteous. The room, a single, was very clean, including the almost new bathroom. I know that the size of rooms and bathrooms in England can be on the smaller size, and this was no exception. Making it worse is my size, which is kind of big. I have no complaints about the size of the room. I survived and liked the cleanliness, and comfy mattress and pillow.
What I'll never understand though, is how these great people can look you in the eye and tell you that, as advertised, these rooms are air conditioned. Some rooms may be, because I went to London with friends, and they stayed in rooms that were "Lower Ground", and they found their rooms air conditioned to the other extreme, very cold, and they had to turn the temp up a bit. Another buddy and I had separate rooms on the second floor, and the "air conditioning" was nonexistent. Nothing. I asked the to check it out over and over again, and over and over again I was told that everything was good, and that basically, I was nuts. I wasn't alone. As I said, my buddy was in the next room, and he had no AC. The two couples I saw who were screaming at the front-desk clerk about trying three rooms with no luck regarding air conditioning, also let me know it wasn't me. One positive was that the windows opened, so at night the air from outside was cooling. (I worried about a visit from pigeons though.)
Again, I was told that I was wrong by the nicest people. They truly seemed to be interested in helping the customer in just about anything, well, except air conditioning. They did give me a fan to use for the duration of my stay, and because the July weather in London during my stay was relatively cool, that fan sufficed to let me be in the room, and to let me have a decent night's sleep.
If you stay here during the summer, you are better off on the lower floors, especially the below ground floors that I was told were cool and comfortable. The neighborhood is very nice, it is very near the Earl's Court tube station, and there are food stores to purchase water and goodies. The breakfast buffet is adequate, and the staff in the dining room went out of their way to make eating there a very nice experience.
I really like this hotel, so much so that i do not like the "three" rating I gave it. The hotel is above average, but my rating has to be what it is because it was the air conditioned hotel that really wasn't air conditioned. Oh well. less
