We booked on a one night b&b and evening meal for Saturday 23rd May. Pretty good rate and was given a "King Executive" room - slightly larger and with tea/coffee making facilities. Car park is a little tight but ok, reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Room was great but others have mentioned, it's a big old building and it was a bit "up, along and down a bit" to reach the room, but that wasn't a problem.
Room was very nice, king sized, comfortable bed and large flat screen TV. Good sized bathroom with bath and shower.
Hotel only a few minutes walk downhill to the town.
Evening meal was OK, could have been presented a little better, but at £20 for a three course, I wasn't expecting the earth, although we did quibble the £4.95 supplement for a Rib-eye steak that really wasn't very good - this was settled to our satisfaction.
Breakfast - good selection, shame that our cooked order arrived half way through eating our cereal but I think a large party arrived just after us which may have shook things up a little but no big problem.
On the Saturday night, the bar seemed a bit soulless and only Tetley bitter on tap if you aren't a lager drinker so we walked down into town and had a really great night in "Ye Old Reindeer" pub, so that worked ou ok!
All in all, would I stay again? resounding yes but probably on B&B basis only as there are many eateries in the town - yes, that would cost more than £20.00 per head but you pays your money and takes your choice! less
