I just returned from three weeks in Germany, Austria, and Northern Italy. I am needing hip replacement soon and had mobility difficulties, using a cane to help me walk. I chose all the hotels with two main criteria: close proximity to the rail station and elevators, which for this trip were essential. I checked on the elevator here in online descriptions and was satisfied they had one. The location IS close enough to the train station. However, the entrance is on street level, but then to get to the reception area, you have to walk down a flight of about 10 steps. Every time I entered or left the hotel meant navigating the stairs with a cane. The breakfast room is down another three flights of stairs. There is a lift up to the rooms, but no lift to get to the breakfast area. Mind you, the staff were very solicitous about my obvious difficulty getting to and from the breakfast room and then hobbling to the various tables of hot and cold breakfast items. One of the staff offered to bring me breakfast to my room. However, I wanted to make my own choice of the types and amounts of food. The hot foods changed daily. I politely declined and continued to hobble my way to breakfast.
The room itself was comfortable. The choices of breakfast items were vast. There was a self serve coffee dispender and mugs, not cups and saucers, for coffee and tea. All very good.
The reception staff were very helpful. My husband had his wallet stolen on the Metro, occasioning much stress. The staff helped us use the telephone to call the bank, fraud department, and credit card companies. They telephoned to Padua to help us get tickets to the Scrovegni chapel for the Giotto frescoes. Everything was great, EXCEPT for the stairs that were a painful impediment to me and would be to anyone with a similar physical disability.
I would stay in this hotel again only if I had my health and mobility. But this time, the stairs caused me much pain and inconvenience. less
