Would not stay at this hotel again. I usually stay at Best Western chains but the last few visits, they have really gone down hill. The usual one I stay at while in Albany ( which is close to my son's college) shut down?! I had a free night from reward points, so I found another one not to far. I called the rewards line to make the reservation and requested a room not by an elevator or entrance due to noise. I asked for something in the middle bc I also have a bad ankle and walking can sometimes be an issue.
I know this is not on the hotel, but I did not receive a confirmation like i usually do, so I had to call to make sure the reservation was there. I advised I would be arriving around 3 ( check in is a 4 but they said it was on a Sunday and they were not filled so it would not be an issue ) I arrived around 3:30 and the first think I noticed was the parking lot was an icy mess. I understand it snows, but their parking lot looked like a plow went through it once and it was extremely slippery. The hotels adjacent and surrounding all had the lots cleared out. I also know it had not snowed in a few days up there. I went to the front desk and no one was there. A gentleman who I am assuming works in the hotel had to find someone. I gave my name and was advised my room was not ready. I explained I requested early check in when making the reservations and even confirmed that morning and was told it was not an issue. She then said she could give me another room. The hands me the key and tells me it is on the second floor. She proceeds to tel me I need to drive to another door where the stairs were. I asked where the elevator was, ( my son explained I had an injured ankle ) she says they do not have an elevator, and that she would have to give me again, a different room. I asked for one that I would not have to drive to another door. She gives me a key and says it is right down the hall. Yes it was, it was the very last door at the end of the hallway, by another door where I would have had to drive to. Next to a door which I asked NOT to be next to. I figured it was not a big deal since the hotel was pretty much empty there would not be a lot of traffic through there. I go into the room and it was either a room that had not been turned over yet by service for a new guest or someone was still staying in the room. The bed was not made, there were papers on the table and items in the refrigerator. I called the desk and she apologized and said she thought the room was done and to come back up to the desk and she would get me yet again another room and one that was closer. I walk back up again and she hands me another key. AGAIN, this was right next to an entrance / exit and right next to the stairs on the OTHER side of the hotel?! At this point I figured it was for only 1 night so I would just deal with it.
The room itself was very run down. Rug had very noticeable stains and pulls in it. The blanket and runners on the bed were dirty too, had some sort of crust on it. ( when I went to the stores I bough Lysol and lysoled the room and bed) I went into the bathroom to freshen up and there was hair and dirt on the tub and on the floor under the sink area. I would NOT be taking a shower in their tub, it looked gross and dirty. The wall behind the toilet had been corroded and I guess part of it fell off. It was nearly impossible to close the door to the bathroom unless you cornered yourself between the sink and toilet.
I left the room and almost got knocked out by the smell of marijuana in the hallway. I know it happens and it is not controllable but the smell was super strong. I saw an employee walking down the opposite hall and I said, might strong smell coming from over there, and he laughed saying yes it is, yes it is.
I left the hotel for about 3 - 4 hours and when I returned I parked in the the back next to the door my room was at. The back of the building was even more slippery then the front. The doors were not lock and you did not need a key to enter the building, it looked as if the doors were actually broken bc they did not close all the way. I had to walk past about 4 guys smoking cigarettes right next to the door where the ashtrays were. Once I got into the room, it felt like I was included in their conversation bc they were literally standing at my window where my room was. Ath this point all I wanted to do was get some sleep. I put the heat up bc the room was pretty chilly, and went to find the DND sign for the door. I did not want to to woken early by house keeping. Of course there was not one. I walked up to the front desk and realized why the other employee didn;t care about the marijuana smell, the entire lobby reeked of it now. I let then women know I was not happy about where my room was, the issues that I was having and she asked if I wanted to switch rooms again. I told her no, I was unpacked and exhausted and just wanted to sleep in a little bit .She said she would write a note for housekeeping. I wanted to get a quick snack before going back into the room from the vending machine that was of course, not working. I did not want to use my credit card in the machine. The place to put dollars was not working and when I put the change in, it just fell to the bottom. I gave up and went to my room.
The heat in the room was horrible, if i set it on low they heat would barley come out, I let it run for about 30 minutes this way, and when I put it on auto at 69 it became a sauna and would not shut off. I got a terrible nights sleep bc I was so uncomfortable. I was then woken pretty early by a delivery truck that was bringing things in the back door where my room was. Then around 8 or 9 I heard a huge thud and bang. I am not sure if they were working on the room or in that back area or if it was the delivery truck, but there was a wooden pallet that had been dropped or something right out my window.
I went to grab some breakfast from their breakfast room, packed up and went to check out. The women at the desk didnt even ask how my stay was, asked my room and asked if I received a copy of my bill under the door ( which I did not )
It's sad bc Best Westerns used to have much better and higher standards when I first started staying at them. I travel a bit and like to stick to one hotel chain, guess it looks like I need to find a better one.
I wasted my points and left un rested and aggravated! less
