So - it's been a while (20+ years), but I lived in Helena for a very short period and as an urban cultural center - well, it wasn't... I get the feeling times have changed although one night hardly qualifies as time served for an informed opinion. I'm not sure what they call this relatively new area (I'm sure it's got some kind of moniker), but the area around the hotel is nice. The hotel? It was nice too...
We were in one of the rooms that was along the indoor pool (looks like there were 4 or 6 rooms that have their own doors into the pool area). The room was HUGE... I like large, opulent rooms, but they need character - this room verged on being just, weird, in a large square box way - decorated nicely enough (good furnishings, etc...), but... Anyway - you may have to contend with the sounds of children shrieking with delight whilst swimming with their parents. The cacophony did die down after we returned from dinner and it was nice to walk less than ten paces to the whirlpool, so all was good. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel as a whole has a very NON-Best Western look & feel to it (this is a good thing...) - modern-y yet elegant and clean - very clean. The hotel in and of itself was better than anticipated - the area around it made the stay very enjoyable. less

Dear bohemianparrothead - Welcome back to Helena! In my 30 years here, I have seen Helena grown at its own pace - very thoughtful in its growth. The Great Northern Town Center sits on where the old rail road was sitting, not a very pretty part of the city. The Town Center is about 15 years old, we are 13 years old and take great pride in our staff and our property. Much to do in Helena - hope you return soon!
